I'm so pissed off at feeling wide awake and night and also needing a million wees.

When I was young, I would go to bed, close my eyes, and that would be it until morning. Occasionally I'd remember a nice dream. Nowadays, I pee before I get into bed, usually pee again twice more before 1 am and again once or twice before getting up at 6. And I have nasty nightmares too which I hate. And then I feel like a shitty cow the next day. I'm not (pre) diabetic, my pelvic floor is obviously shot to bits. Even if that wasn't an issue, I still can't bloody sleep. Urgh.

No advice but I have the same problem! OTC melatonin helps with getting back to sleep but my bladder wakes me 2-4 times a night every night.

I did read that cutting out added sugar can help but I haven't done it yet (too exhausted!)

Thelnebriati · 14/01/2023 01:24

Cutting out sugar really does help, I only get up once or twice a night now.

Ohgodthepain · 14/01/2023 01:35

I've found I need much less sleep since the menopause, I never feel sleepy either, tired during the day but never sleepy.

StarInTheHeavens · 14/01/2023 01:51

I don't have any added sugar, my diet is pretty clean. I'm post menopausal though. I suppose I'm going to have to dedicate the rest of my life to bloody pelvic floor exercises.. Hmm

This is me. Sleep is completely messed up and have to keep getting up for the toilet. Perhaps I'll try and cut out sugar. My diet is not great I suppose.

Insaneinthemembraneee · 14/01/2023 01:55

I'm the opposite if I don't have a teaspoon of sugar added to my cups of tea/coffee I'm up half the night.
I also love a cappuccino before bed! if I don't I have no umph in the morning 😂

I've found I need much less sleep since the menopause, I never feel sleepy either, tired during the day but never sleepy.

I think that does happen but it also speeds up ageing, I'd prefer to keep my sleep.

mondaytosunday · 14/01/2023 01:57

Try hypopressive exercises (Google it). It's a kind of breathing exercise that creates a vacuum. It helps develops pelvic and abdominal and back muscles. I've been doing them for a few months and find I need to get up less frequently during the night, and my posture is better.

mondaytosunday · 14/01/2023 01:58

They are also like a mini meditation session!

user278654 · 14/01/2023 07:29

I have the same issues. Do not drink after 8pm might help sometimes it works for me.

Vallmo47 · 14/01/2023 07:31

Same here OP. 😡

beeny · 14/01/2023 07:36

Exactly this problems

Amboseli · 14/01/2023 07:37

Same here. Am post menopausal. My sleep has been messed up since I was pregnant with first DC in 2003 and apart from the occasional few months here and there when I sleep well, the vast majority of the time I'm wide awake at night, get up to pee, wake up early and can't sleep.

I think I need to do more exercise. Maybe it will help me to sleep better. I don't know.

honestlyno · 14/01/2023 07:39

I'm not there yet, but have found my nights are always filled with dreams now. It's exhausting. Don't suppose anyone knows how to have a dreamless night?

Tontostitis · 14/01/2023 07:40

Pelvic floor exercises are the way. That and during the day I don't go 'just in case' and I try to wait at least 4 hours between wees.

Enko · 14/01/2023 07:42

Hrt helped with the constant needing to pee issue for me. Still sleeping hit and miss but the bign28 kilo lump of a lapdog gets the blame there last night.
Growling for 30 mins at 1 am.

Dancingtumbleweed · 14/01/2023 07:50

I am exactly the same. The sugar thing probably is a factor. I don't remember it being a problem when I was calorie counting and cutting out the treats. I am already preparing to start the healthy eating again so I will monitor my nightly toilet visits and see if it improves.

goldennotyetoldie · 14/01/2023 07:51

I was like this. Waking up stupidly early and peeing all the time. Now on HRT and I go to sleep, dream and wake up naturally at about 7am.

It's bliss.

I'd forgotten that I hadn't been sleeping deeply enough to dream. My dreams now are epic.

EspeciallyDetermined · 14/01/2023 07:56

I've only ever had to get up once in the night (I am mid 50s). I've been doing hypopressives for years and no caffeine helps too. However I started a keto diet (very low carb) a few months ago and when I stick to it I sleep like a log and don't wake at all.

Goatsanddogs · 14/01/2023 07:59

I have interstitial cystitis so basically an irritated bladder and constantly needing to wee but never completely empties the bladder. Worse at night. I also get constipation and when that is bad the pressure on my bladder is worse . What helps me to sleep and forget about needing to wee is listening to an audio book.

Notcontent · 14/01/2023 08:07

I have the same problem. I used to sleep so well. I am now exactly the same as you OP. Look and feel like shit most days, as I am someone who needs 8 hours sleep to look and feel decent.
