Remedies for an upset stomach?

I'm in SO MUCH PAIN. It's not the diarrhoea that's the problem, I can cope with that. It's the stomach cramps. I feel like I'm being squeezed like a piping bag every few minutes, I've barely slept 😣 It's absolutely horrendous! What can I do that might help? I'm a bit scared of putting my jeans on to take DS to school, my stomach is so hard and bloated 😣

Hot water bottle, herbal tea (mint s best) iif you can face it, but keep drinking water. Rest as much as possible and ride it out.

Fennel tea is great for upset stomachs too as is ginger tea. If you don't have any mint, fennel or ginger tea, but do have ginger - even ground ginger - you can put some in hot water and sip that.

Peptobismol, available in pharmacies. Chewable tablets, pleasant to take.

Get some rehydration drinks or tablets.
take an anti diarrhoea tablets as directed on the packaging.
a generic one will be fine.
take pain relief like co codamol.

I was very very poorly in Nov with food poisoning and my closest friend is a GP.

this is what she told me to do. I felt so unwell due to dehydration.
mot made such a difference to follow her advice.

Do not take anything containing codeine - it can constipate you and is really not a good idea for anything stomach and bowel related.

HesterLee · 13/01/2023 09:35

Buscopan - it's an anti-spasmodic medication and can really help with the cramping.

HesterLee · 13/01/2023 09:37

Also I would avoid an anti-diarrhoeal for the first 24 hours or so - your body is trying to expel whatever is upsetting your stomach

It's okay it's been a bit longer than that actually.

Our local pharmacies tell me it is unavailable and they haven't been able to get any for about 18 months.
I'm devastated as it works brilliantly

Right, I have hydration tablets, anti diarrhoea stuff, pain meds (not codeine), peppermint tea (which is nicer than I expected but my god the box smells strong!) and I'm just making up a hot water bottle 🤞🏼

Definitely peppermint tea, you can add a bit of sugar if you don’t like the taste

Thank you all so much, I'm feeling so much better already! No pains whatsoever, the bloating has gone and I haven't been to the toilet for over two hours!
