Am I the only one?

I have a friend who I love very much. Most of the time we chat and laugh and don't come up for air. It's fun when we're together. But lately she is making judgements on my choice of holidays and how I live my life. I am married and have a husband who is a little controlling but is a good man and works hard. She would have me believe that everything in her life is perfect and happily tells me what I should be doing ... she is slim, I'm overweight but I do everything to stay fit, swim daily, walk etc. She makes comments about it as if she has all the answers. I book a holiday and because we've been there before, she looks at me with sympathy as if I should be pitied. It is really getting to me but I don't know how to address it. Any advice welcome. Should I just suck it up or should I say something? I am not one to cause any ill feeling.

🎵🎶Yeaaaaaahhh🎶🎵

But in all seriousness OP, if she's making you feel like crap you need to tell her.

How is your husband controlling?

Thanks .. loved that 'Back Street Boys' thing - never a fan myself!

He just has a way of always getting his own way. I tend to do all the compromising because I hate a bad atmosphere. I guess I am living his life mostly, not really mine. I am happy enough though. Just a bit of a doormat.

I’d say something to her about how much it’s bothering you. Friends should be honest with each other and support each other. Tell her that you don’t appreciate the comments and the pitiful looks, hopefully you can both move past it!

Ah yes living in the DH show. Not the first, but it’s up to you. Personally I’d tell her to sod off!

I would think about the controlling husband bit and think is he and you are trying to justify the way he is treating you

If the holidays are an equal decision then tell her you are both happy with your choice and ask why does she have a problem with it?

Some single women enjoy chipping away at their married friends. It’s like if they can’t be married then no one else can.

Thanks all. She is married too. We are all friends together aswell and enjoy nights out as a group. Maybe she just feels she knows me too well and thinks it's okay to make comments. Who knows. I think I will say something to her, otherwise it will continue and eat away at me. Thanks for listening.

Bin her off, she's changed and isn't a friend any more. Your marriage is your business, if you're ok with your DH level of controlling behaviour that's your decision. It's different if you're regularly moaning about him to her, I could understand her commenting then, but if you're happily married she should butt out. Seems she thinks she's better than you.
