How long would you stick it out at new job?

This is way harder than I thought it would be. I left my comfy, friendly (a little boring) job for shiny new job. This is my second week. It's a 10K bump in pay and more progression opportunities.

Management are friendly but are too busy to really train me. I only have access to about half of what I need to do my job. I sit at a hot desk trying to figure out whom to contact to ask again about passwords, with people coming and going but sort of speed-walking and too busy to engage.

I keep reminding myself every job is like this at first, but I'm really tempted to go running back to my old job.

What do they say when you ask about passwords? Are you just asking in passing or have you put it in an email (if you haven't then do so you have a paper trail if you need it)

Do you have a mentor or a line manager? Is the company big enough to have an IT or HR dept?

Start there.

Coffeetree · 12/01/2023 19:37

Thanks @Rudolphscarrot yes certainly I'm emailing IT and whomever else I can think of. The company appear to have outsourced their HR and IT services so it feels disjointed.

I'm not entirely sure who my line manager is. There's a management team.

I have a meeting with my main contact tomorrow and I think I need to just lay it out and tell her I've spent a lot of time just trying to get basic access.

Second week? Slooooow doooowwwn!

Are you getting bollocked for not getting stuff done? If not, then try to calm down and just let it happen.

I work in a large organisation that has a slightly flaky approach to induction. I have never had everything I need before a month is out.

You would be very silly to go back to your old job so quickly unless you are being badly treated/harassed/bullied.

I can usually roll with uncertainty and I don't need to be spoon-fed, but there's something so jarring about sitting there unconnected and uncertain with people speed-walking all around me.

I just want to retire already 🤓

When did you last change jobs?

Coffeetree · 12/01/2023 19:45

No definitely no one's chasing me for results.

My last job was a twelve-month contract (they offered to change it to permanent but I'd already secured new job). So I should be used to this!
