frequency of doctor visits

This came out of a conversation with a colleague about taking antibiotics. I told him I'd never been to a doctor other than for reasons associated with pregnancy, contraception, smear tests, jabs. Nothing to do with being ill. He thought this was incredibly unusual. Is it?? I'm over 50.

It's not unusual at all especially if you are quite fit. You are obviously doing something right!

Some people go to their GP all the time, some never go.
If you never go, then consider yourself lucky to never feel the need.

It's not unusual at all. In fact the system is depending on a good proportion of people having v little contact /need for health services. I know several people (mainly men) who literally never go.

I was you once. It can all change in an instant unfortunately. My NHS app is now lit up with more notifications than my Social Media...

Not unusual. Some people are lucky enough to enjoy very good health. Others don't really care to go for anything even when they probably should!

Not unusual at all.

I've never been for physical illness.

Itisbetter · 15/01/2023 00:29

I go more than that but not often. I haven’t been to the GP for years., maybe 5? It depends on your health though and attitude. I have friends who seem to go every week.

I don't think I've been for 25 years for me until recent menopause chat.

I would say it's uncommon rather than usual, that you have got over 50 and not needed to see a GP for anything other than reasons you give. I would expect most people have needed some medical advice or support along the way, particularly in childhood.
