Try ibuprofen as well. The poor thing

Treetrim · 12/01/2023 09:00

I should add that the GP should be seeing you immediately with this. I would even risk an A&a visit but be ready to head to docs at 2.40 if you don’t get seen by then

Making sure she's sat upright and holding something warm against the ear can help.

Her ear drum has burst with the amount of fluid and infection. She should now feel some relief from the pain. It’s not necessary to go to A & E, the GP appointment is fine. I hope she’s better soon.

Yes to ibuprofen - definitely need that for an ear. She will be in a lot of pain. Don't let her get it wet in the bath or shower.

ChocChocYum · 12/01/2023 09:19

Given ibruprofen now.
will she need antibiotics?

Keep he ear dry so no water gets into her midfield ear as her eardrum has burst. Give her medicine for pain relief. Lay her on her side on with a warm waterbottle under her poorly ear so it is more comfortable but will the infection will drain out. She needs antibiotics. My daughter had repeat ear infections. They are really not pleasant. Hope she feels better soon. Xx

BlueSuffragette · 12/01/2023 09:24

Sorry.. into her middle ear, ie behind the broken ear drum.

My 6 year old DD had this in December. Episodes of blood bursting out of her ear, dried blood filled what we could see and she was in agony. Ibuprofen worked far better than paracetamol.

Her middle ear had ruptured but after 3 days of trying and failing to get her seen or even a phone call I called 111 who gave us an appointment at our doctors. The doctor was very thorough but expressed that we’d overreacted because of the blood. We were concerned about her hearing, her pain and the chance of infection.

He reluctantly prescribed antibiotics and within a couple of days she was doing much better. Her hearing was affected for a few weeks after but seems to have improved now, something to keep an eye on but I would definitely recommend her ear gets seen.

Poor thing!! I agree with PP though the GP this afternoon will be fine. You will probably wait in a&e with this type of problem till way after your appointment.

I hope she's feeling better very soon.

lovelilies · 12/01/2023 09:59

Yes she will likely get antibiotics

ChocChocYum · 12/01/2023 10:00

She has perked up after neurofen and is sitting up with ear warmer on.

My daughter had this last month. She'd had an ear infection a couple of weeks prior and had woken up again with severe ear pain. She was so pale and unwell with it so I took her straight to the walk in centre.
The infection had come back and burst her eardrum ☹️ thankfully after another course of antibiotics, she was fine.
Hope your dd is ok xx

walnutmarzipan · 12/01/2023 18:10

How did you get on at the doctors OP?

Owlyhedgehog · 13/01/2023 20:17
