Soak and sleep has £80 silk duvets with mostly good review but it's not cheap. Does anyone have experience of using silk please?

I found silk bedding to be a bit of a pain as it had to be hand washed and line dried and was never as soft after it was washed.

Not sure about silk but how about wool? My wool duvet is amazing

it is very cruel way of manufacturing a fabric, and totally unnecessary these days

Hypoallergenic ones designed for the purpose are better

HowDoYouOwnDisorder · 12/01/2023 07:55

@Nimbostratus100 cruel?

silk duvets are quite heavy, but very breathable

I like them, but my DS preferred a more fluffy synthetic type one (hypo allergenic)

What temperature can you wash it at? For duatmite allergy you who be able to wash at 60oC to kill the mites.

The things I've found helped for dust mite allergy are:
Hypoallergenic bedding, including a mattress protector.
-Replace pillow then get a pillow protector to go under pillowcase.

  • wash mattress protector and pillow protector at 60oC every couple of weeks.
-hoover mattress and wash duvet once a month
  • buy a hoover with a HEPA filter and do "10 times over" hoovering technique (when you hoover go over each bit of carpet ten times - good arm workout). Pay particular attention to carpet at sides of and under bed .

HTH

Thanks everyone esp @Untitledsquatboulder

Luckily I already had a new miel HEPA just as we found this out.

I've also got pillow protector.

Forgot about hoovering mattress good call through we have those foam thing's from IKEA on top of it anyway and mattress protector.

I was slightly put off all the duvet protectors and hypo stuff because of Teflon added and cancer risk

Wool is fab for dust mite allergies as it is naturally resistant.

HaroldeVwilliam · 12/01/2023 17:10

@Yarnosaura is it alsp easy to wash etc

You can't wash / dry clean silk duvets. You can spot clean in dire circumstances, but the only way to sanitise them is to leave outside in the sun, and for UV rays to "clean" it. I like my 3 tog for summer, but prefer the feeling of a big, fluffy duvet in the winter.

Tamarindtree · 12/01/2023 17:18

When my daughter lives at home we bought her this as she developed all year round rhinitis and it stopped her allergies

We have one that incorporates two Tog levels, for me and DH. But we prefer down, as it's lighter.

I've never actually washed mine! Wool repeals most things, is anti microbial etc so just needs airing. If it was stained I'd spot clean it.
