Do I need an Apple Watch?

I have a big birthday coming up and family have suggested clubbing together to get me a joint present. Which is lovely of them.
I just don't know what I want. Someone suggested an Apple Watch.
I would use it for keeping track of exercise but I have a fit bit atm. Also have Applepay on my phone
What else can it do that's going to wow me?

I love my Apple Watch! If you get it with the GPS and cellular, you don't even need to take your phone out and about with you - you can take calls / send messages / use apple pay without a phone. I find that liberating sometimes (even though I can be in contact with people) as I don't feel the need to doom scroll.

It's great for tracking steps and exercise in my experience, heart rate, sleep tracking etc - but I think these are all on the Fitbit too? I love the seamless integration with my iPhone that's a huge selling point, they also look really cute.

My DH has an ultra - it has really really good sports uses if you're into that, we do a lot of walking and it's got an amazing feature called backtrack so if you get lost or anything you can just use it and it will GPS navigate you back to your starting point. I have the larger regular one and it's just sleek and easy to use.

No. If it’s not ‘wowing’ you now, it’s not going to.

I am not really a ‘stuff’ person, I would prefer an experience. I would remember a weekend away/theatre visit/crafting course etc for many years after a physical item bought at the same time had been thrown away.

I have an Apple Watch which I won in a raffle and only started wearing after my Garmin Vivosport died. I really don't like it, and would have been gutted to have been given that rather than £600 worth of something else.

yes, I absolutely love mine - it pretty much does what your apple phone does & no comparison to a Fitbit imo

I’m disappointed with my Apple Watch. It was an expensive mistake.

I like mine.

It buzzes if I've got my phone on silent so I can decide if I want to take a call;
it buzzes for WhatsApp messages;
I can use it for Apple Pay if I don't want to take a purse to the gym;
it has a fall sensor/blood oxygen monitor;
I find the fitness circles a lot more pleasing/motivating than the Fitbit version;
I can use it with ear buds when I'm out walking the dog and if I need to stop a podcast because there's a dog/car/horse approaching, I don't need to fish my phone out of my pocket;

and most importantly, when I've lost my phone down the side of the sofa, the Apple Watch can ping it until I've found it. I use this function several times a day.

I like my Apple Watch but for a big birthday I’d be a bit unsure about getting one as I’d want something that either provided memories eg an outing, weekend trip or something that had a long lifespan that i could use and treasure eg a piece of jewellery

I don't love it. I have a good idea of how many steps I do in a day and if I do enough exercise. I'm not sure how accurate the calories burned are. I also don't need a watch to tell me if I've had a good night's sleep. Definitely not worth it for me.

I love mine, I wasn't sure for a long time but now I wouldn't want to be without it. Mine isn't cellular so I can't take calls on it etc without the phone but I can still use apple play without my phone or if it has gone flat. As well as exercise and seeing messages I use it to listen to music etc without having to keep taking my phone out of my pocket (with airpods), I can leave my phone on my desk at work and pick up calls etc around the building, I use the timer all the time, apple pay without having to dig my phone out of my bag, I like the fall sensor (it does work). I use it all the time to ping and find my phone.

One of the best things is navigation with apple maps when walking, set your directions on the phone, put it away and your watch will give you directions and vibrate every time you need to turn, no more wandering around staring at your phone.

Have to admit I’m not in love with mine, as someone else it was just an expensive mistake…it’s currently sat on the side gathering dust!

I would look at something else for a big birthday
