Can anyone describe what costochondritis feels like

I woke up this morning with a sharp pain around my ribs and back, not a back ache but more a shooting pain in a certain position. I was in agony and could move a certain way. It’s hard to describe but it felt tight around my ribs and breathing in a full breath hurt. After ibuprofen and about an hour it went but I can still feel it mildly.

I have scoliosis and pectus excavatum which could explain this pain but had this check including heart scans a couple of years ago and all was okay.

I’m wondering if it could be costochondritis

I've had it and those sound like the symptoms! Hope you feel better soon.

For me it’s a constant sore pain that become sharp and intense in certain positions/movements. I find that heat rub cream helps it. Also, if you carefully palpate the area you will find a sore area that triggers the pain when you press on it.

Sounds like it. I used to suffer from costochondritis too although touch wood haven't had a flare in a while. When it was really bad the doctor prescribed anti inflammatories to take for a couple of weeks. I could usually feel the pains towards the bottom of my rib cage and round to my back, ice packs also helped me much more than heat.

If you lie on your back, and put your legs up in the air, and get excruciating pain, that can be an indication of pericarditis. Can you get a GP appt? Sounds muscular of some sort

I had this in my 30's.

I rolled over in bed and a sharp spring end caught my ribs. Except, there wasn't a spring at all. That's how sharp and localised the feeling was. Every time I rolled over it felt the same. It went with rest and anti inflammatory meds.
