Should I get a second opinion- dental issues

Going to try keep this brief.
Have had issues with jaw clenching for many years (during night time). Didn't really think about it, but has caused huge damage to teeth.
Recently had filling top and bottom molars (bottom had chipped). The issue is, bottom has been fine but there's been a dull pain around top tooth. Went back, nothing showed up on x ray, but dentist re did bottom one as that has a small shadow.
Unfortunately, pain never went, (I now have a night guard mouthpiece to help reduce damage).
Recently, pain is awful, top is far more painful and im now losing sleep. Sharp pain that doesn't seem to ease with painkillers.
Went back, but again, nothing shows up on x ray, and only suggestion re do bottom one again( mentioned a slight shadow there again), and then if need be move on to root canal.
I'm at a loss, the pain is far worse from top tooth/teeth, the sensitivity to cold is more top teeth.

Would you go ahead with suggested plan or get a second opinion? The treatments are costing me a lot too as the dentists moved me from nhs to private due to gap between visits Angry

As you had to go private anyway I would definitely get a second opinion! Good luck!

Thank you, makes sense, I've no idea how to ease the pain either, and I don't think dentist understood how painful it is Angry

Dental pain is awful! I’d go ahead and get a second opinion.
Could it be from elsewhere?

Definitely get a second opinion. It can be radiated pain.

Good luck, (also a current dental sufferer here.)
