Feel light headed / dizzy all the time

So I'll start by saying I do have a GP appointment but it's not for some time.
I had a baby 6 weeks ago- this may or may not be related. I didn't lose much blood, iron levels only slightly below normal on discharge.

So since having my baby I feel really light headed a lot of the time. Light headed and dizzy, usually just one episode a day, but yesterday it was throughout the day and this morning already it feels as though my head is floating and I feel very strange.

I don't know what this could be - does anyone have any suggestions ?

I would get your iron levels checked. You could perhaps have lower iron levels now, and therefore be anaemic. It also could be something entirely different, so a blood test might be useful.

I get light headed if my blood pressure goes too low. You could try upping your fluid intake and see if that helps.

Is it anxiety? That floaty feeling could be depersonalisation.

Agree with iron. Hope you’re ok OP.

Lack of sleep/or ear infections can make you feel that way too...

mackerelskymackerelsky · 10/01/2023 09:50

Could it be tiredness?

MyCreation · 10/01/2023 10:10

Congratulations on your new baby OP. How much sleep are you managing to get? Are you eating /drinking regularly ?

its definitely a very good idea to see your GP and let them check you over. It could be anything from anaemia, your body adapting to recently giving birth, low blood pressure, exhaustion, among other things.

Do you feel well otherwise? Are you breast and/or formula feeding? Could you nave a low level infection do you think? I know when I’m even a bit unwell I often feel lightheaded and a bit dizzy.

Definitely get your iron levels checked and your vitamin D. I would also call your HV. This is something that really shouldn't be waiting until you see the GP 'in some time'. They can send you for blood tests ahead of your GP appt.

Ok some good ideas here, thank you.
I don't think I'm sleeping too badly, for a newborn. Getting 3 hour stretches at night which could be worse! But obviously I am tired.
I did have antibiotics for a potential infection in my section scar but I feel a lot better than I had felt a couple of weeks ago.
I could probably be drinking more water, I'm probably surviving on slightly too much caffeine!

Interesting point about anxiety- I don't think so but it's not impossible, I'll consider that.

Today the lightheaded feeling seems particularly at the back of my head. Seems worse today.

Ok, I'll call her, thank you.

Definitely get your blood pressure checked. I've had that and it was high blood pressure.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 10/01/2023 12:33

Congratulations on your baby
Could also be low blood pressure
Also if you forget to eat or drink regularly( easy with a newborn!) that won't be helping

Teafor1please · 10/01/2023 12:37

My dad has a home blood pressure machine so I might nip round and check it just in the first instance. I hadn't considered that as a possibility.
