If you go to an out of county school, who pays?

Does anyone know the answer to this.

I live on the border of the county and my DS is in a school that belongs to that county. Following various things occurring we've decided to move DS to another school. New school is in the next county (albeit nearer to our current address).

They have places and there's no issues with him moving there, I just wondered which LA pays for his place? Does the neighbouring county bill the county we live in for his place?

One La pays the other one but it's a fag to get them to .

Typical!

I did wonder if it was just a reciprocal thing as in overall an average number of students from county A go to B and vice versa.

Yes, your home LA will pay the other LA. It happens a lot where I live as we have so many local authorities jigsawing against each other. In actual fact we have a school in LA 1 but half the catchment is in LA 2.

As politely as I can say this, it is not your concern and is for the two LA's to sort out.

I hope the move goes well.

All my DC went to schools in the next county. We had to apply through our own county, the schools then apply their own admission rules.

Just be aware that you may not be eligible for school transport (if this is relevant to you) if your chosen school is further away than the designated school in your own LA.

And if your child has an EHCP then the council where the child lives is the council that issues it.
We live in Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) , but DS goes to s college that falls in the City Of Bristol council area.

Again, apart from nosiness why does it matter? My children go to school in a different county and their are no discernable differences in how they are educated.
The biggest issue for me is the £120 per month in bus fares getting them there and back!

Sorry my post seemed a bit harsh, being nosey is good 😉 It is such a normal set up where I live that I never gave it much thought. When I was applying for my eldest an out of LA school was our second choice. Whatever school she had gone to there would have been travel costs involved, so that was a moot point.
