Anyone care to join me in a January gym rant?

I'd forgotten how much I hate January at my gym (and yes, I am aware than I was once a newbie but I'm going to rant anyway as a was never a newbie dick).

Got there this morning with plenty of time to spare to get to my class. There are cars queueing for spaces and people dicking around with indicators on waiting for people to leave their space, blocking the whole road. 4x4's parked across two spaces in case anyone should park too close to their precious tank. Then I finally get inside to find an entire family with kids blocking the entrance barriers because they can't find their membership cards or whatever. GET OUT THE WAY!!!

Get to class. Newbies who have never done it before turn up at the very last minute so that the instructor starts the class late because he has to explain everything to them. If you're new, turn up early to allow for this FFS.

Then on the way out there are two kids playing catch with a ball in the café where people are eating and drinking. It's not a playground FFS!!

Ahh I feel better now. Roll on February when everyone will have fucked off and normal service is resumed.

I’m wondering if somebody somewhere is fuming at my presence at their gym. I’m just taking adavantage of a January special offer.

I drive a 4x4 too.

Yes, they are.

But they are trying to be patient because they know you won't come back again until just before your summer holiday when you try your bikini on😉

On another note, have you considered not driving to the gym?!

This is one of the reasons I chose the gym I did. I can either walk or get the bus, no need to drive. But I guess DL clientele don't consider not driving.

You envious you can’t afford DL 😂

Not at all!! I get a fantastic PT, staff who all greet me by name and a great workout where I am. I only need access to weights and equipment, I don't need a sauna or cafe. The classes are full of lovely people and instructors who love helping you.

I’ll be back they have another special offer.

It’s not the only gym I go to. Bikinis don’t frighten me, I just wanted to try somewhere different.

Are they resting between sets?

For five minutes, yes. Who needs five minutes?

I rest between sets but don't hog the equipment.

Stellaris22 · 12/01/2023 20:24

I have some rests that can last as long as 2-3 mins (I have workouts planned by a PT, inc rest times). People have different goals so could have different rest periods than you're used to.

It's all quietened down to usual levels now. In the classes and the gym itself. Bliss!

Some newbies have stayed of course, but an awful lot of people have moved on.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 23/02/2023 14:54

Yes, that's right. 'The January Club' as I describe them have got bored and moved on.

I have my first pt session in 3 months tomorrow due to various reasons so will be interesting to see how busy it is at a more human time than 5am.
