Child falling BMI

My DS is almost 7. I weigh and measure him every 6 months or so and use the NHS app to calculate his BMI. Should I be concerned that it seems to be just falling and falling? From about 2020-2021 he seemed to be around 40th percentile. In early 2021 he was 35th, early 2022 he was 25th and today he’s 18th 😳 he does look very skinny. He is slightly above average height wise (65th percentile for height).

I have no concerns about his eating or diet, he had a funny phase of not eating much about a year ago when he got scared after choking/gagging but he was over that within a few months. If he had always been this skinny I wouldn’t be concerned but he does seem to have become noticeably skinnier in the last few years, trousers fall off his waist. Is this just a normal age thing?

I think I'd encourage another snack each day.
DS1 sometimes panics me by dropping to around 3th centile on the NHS BMI calculator, but then bounces back up to his normal 9th. The continual dropping you are seeing would concern me more.

Adjustable waist trousers are your friend! And M&S do longer length school trousers, so I size down on the age, and go extra long, skinny cut!

Thanks for the tip on M&S trousers! I normally buy DS Sainsbury’s and adjust the waist to the tightest setting!

I will encourage another snack, like most kids he’s a sugar monster so need to find some good snacks that are healthier and more filling. Cheese and crackers maybe with a glass of milk.
