Talk to me about Butlins...

Never been before. Looking to go Mon - Fri during Feb half term to Minehead. On a very tight budget, so looking at the most basic rooms which have no cooking facilities.

Could you take an electric cool box and an air fryer? I have no idea!

Please hit me with your suggestions/hints and tips! Many thanks 👍

We’ve been to butlins at Skegness 3 times and we love it there.
So much for the kids to do, the pool is great, and it’s entertaining.

We’ve always eaten at the buffet to enjoy a proper holiday. I would encourage you eat the in the premium diner and not the general one. Food is better quality

Only been to the adults only weekends at the Skeg one but from what I saw the facilities for young kids look decent. I’d advise a private caravan rather than their accommodation, the appartments were manky!

Also - if you are doing any activities you have to book for then I would recommend booking for these as soon as you can .

I used to go with friends on the adults weekends which were fun. We only ever booked the gold accommodation, anything cheaper had plastic covers on the mattresses etc. but overall it was ok, clean and warm accommodation and lots of fun stuff to do. I've never been with dc

My kids love Butlins. They are 5 and 2. I’ve heard the standard rooms are pretty basic and they haven’t been renovated yet. They look pretty booked up for half term as the next category up is showing as a comfort apartment (so not silver rooms, comfort rooms, or silver apartments available). A comfort apartment would be better if you could stretch to it as it will have a lounge and kitchen.

I know that on site you can hire a mini fridge for your room. I don’t know if you can hire a microwave but maybe you could bring one. There should be a kettle. There is a big Morrisons just outside the camp. There is also a McDonalds nearby. Tbh the kids will love all the activities and won’t care if the food is basic!

@TulipTuesday that's a good tip about the caravans - but don't you have to pay on top for the activity pass ?

Nope! They’ve always been included in the price when I’ve booked a caravan.

We've had some brilliant holidays at Butlins. I'm never stayed in the rooms without a kitchen, so I can't advise there. But people on mn always say Butlins is terrible, but my dc love it so we've always enjoyed it. The pools are great, and they can go on the main funfair rides as many times as they like for no extra cost.

Hi everyone, we’ve booked to go to Butlins Skegness next year. Booked for 4 nights but thinking of extending to 7.
Were in the South East.

Is 4 nights enough or would 7 be more adequate? If we go for a week we can atleast maybe do a few more things in and around the area.

We sent to Minehead last year and enjoyed it. Been to Bognor too , albeit a long time ago

JayWayney · 08/07/2023 15:00

We used to go to Bognor some years back. The chalets there had the window open to the path leading to all the other chalets. The first year, for privacy, we kept the curtains closed. Later, I always took some lightweight fabric/net curtain off cuts and drawing pins so we had light and privacy. Don't know if Minehead has a similar layout.

Btw, Tesco no longer do 3x value on vouchers. It's gone down to 2X now.
