There must be a gritty TV series with realistic characters that I haven’t seen yet!!!

DH is away with work, the children are all plugged into devices, my wine is poured but I have absolutely nothing to watch!!

I love gritty, atmospheric crime dramas with realistic characters that pull you in, I dislike fantasy, dystopian, period or Sci-fi plots or anything where the characters are more placed to look pretty than to pull you in…

Some things I’ve enjoyed over the last few years…

Happy Valley
Craith/Hidden
Sharp Objects
Man Hunt
The light in the Hall
The Fall
Dublin Murders
True Detective
The Red Riding Trilogy
Snow Angels
Hinterland

Help a lady out with great TV with similar plots as the above.

How do you get on with subtitles?

The Bridge is one of the best things I watched over lockdown. Just binged every episode/every series. I was so gutted when I'd finished them.

Did you ever watch cracker? Think you may be able to watch it on a streaming service - sure i saw it advertised somewhere. And prime suspect. Oldies, but goodies.

Slow Horses is fabulous! Excellent cast and screen adaptation by Morwenna Banks, manages to be humorous too, probably for that reason.

If you haven't watched The Shield that would definitely fit the bill. I think they're all on Prime.

Yellowstone.

Beautifull and gritty - violent in a way that leaves you confused about your feelings towards its use. Characters who you grow to love and despise. A story that unfolds, and unfolds and then unfolds some more.
