Do you consider Marmite good for you? (thinking of the B vitamins)

I'm not sure whether to consider it good or not?

Loads of vitamins but also full of salt. You only have a little bit of it though. I probably eat Marmite or Marmite peanut butter five days out of seven.

Good.

JamSandle · 07/01/2023 20:19

I've always considered it healthy.

pd339 · 07/01/2023 20:19

I don't consider it good for me, it is good for me.

Twizbe · 07/01/2023 20:23

Yes. We had a dietician help with weaning our eldest and she was a big fan of him having it.

If you've ever seen the series Tenko there's a whole story line about what a mother would do to get her son marmite.

Eminybob · 07/01/2023 20:23

I don't think it's possible to consume enough of it to actually get any health benefits.
Bloody delicious though

FurryDandelionSeekingMissile · 07/01/2023 20:25

Like everything else it depends on your personal needs as an individual, how much of it you eat and how often, the makeup of the rest of your diet, and so on. If you're low on B vits and need a higher salt intake, then great. If you're a coeliac on an MAOI and have salt-sensitive hypertension, not so great.

Tamarindtree · 07/01/2023 20:28

Absolutely good for me. I eat it most days and have done since I was a child.

Whataretheodds · 07/01/2023 20:33

It's probably not very helpful to label things 'good' or 'bad' - marmite is fine in context.

Lemonademoney · 07/01/2023 20:35

Good for you. I stick a spoonful of it into bologneses too

FestivePinkFairy · 07/01/2023 20:36

I don't care if it's healthy or not, it's bloody delicious.

BestIsWest · 07/01/2023 20:37

Yes. On toast with a mashed banana on top preferably.

WhereIsMyRollingPin · 07/01/2023 20:43

Definitely good for you, but the low salt version will give you the benefits of the vitamins too.

Mossstitch · 07/01/2023 22:08

My babies had it on toast fingers as weaning food (tiniest smear) I think it stopped them having a sweet tooth. All adults now and still choose it over jam for toast and oatcakes.

PinkPlantCase · 07/01/2023 22:10

I don’t eat marmite, but would it count as an ultra processed food? I don’t know much about how it’s made.

Diplidocus4 · 07/01/2023 22:11

Marmite peanut butter Grin

sunseaandme · 07/01/2023 22:15

Not necessarily 'good' for me however as the flavour is so strong you only need a tiny bit (on toast I mean for example) so calorie wise it is much much less than most toppings/spreads as you use such a tiny amount

Marmite peanut butter Grin

Yes. It looks disgusting but tastes amazing!

WinterDeWinter · 08/01/2023 00:43

I went vegan fairly recently and as soon as I did I began to crave marmite, so I think it really is good for me in the sense that it gives my body something I'm lacking (B vits).

Also it's so absolutely delicious with plant butter on seedy wholemeal/rye toast. I will never lose weight on this fucking vegan diet.
