Who is responsible for a road sign on a private house?

I live on a Victorian estate of terrace houses. The street name signs are bolted to the side of houses, underneath the first floor window sill.

I noticed today that the adjacent road’s sign is a bit damaged - I think it’s just worn away and probably suffered a bit this winter! It’s just got me thinking (and a look on the council website hasn’t helped) - who would be responsible for maintaining the sign? If you have a house with a street sign on the side of it, could you just take it down if you decided you didn’t like it?

To clarify - I have no skin in this. It’s just something that’s interested me!

Speak to the parish council.

Is it County Highways (rather than the local council)

Local council will replace them where we live

I wonder if there is something in their deeds, a house we looked at had a post box in the front wall and there was something in the deeds saying you couldn’t remove it/block access etc.

Usually anything to do with roads is a County Council or Unitary Council function so I would potentially ask your closest? Don't think it would be district / borough

The local authority are responsible for pavements and street signs. Our LA has a website and app you can report and add photos for this sort of thing,
