Need your help with a February birthday.

So I am basically 46 on February. As my birthday is in the depths of winter I haven't had many sucessful ones as a grown up. Basically out door events or exploring are a gamble because of the weather.

Can I ask you for some not too expensive ideas for actually having a good birthday this year? I live in south Wales but could travel and I have 2 young boys to factor in so it has to be kid friendly.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Trip on a heritage railway? Doesn't matter if it rains, and you could make it a round trip with lunch in the middle. I don't know South Wales so can't recommend one but Google suggests there are some options.

Is there anything you particularly like doing?

Book a day/afternoon off work and have a spa day alone! Often good deals around.

Wander round a stately home/gardens with tea and cake? Good for kids to learn there’s times and places to be sensible.

Is there a nice market town nearby you could all have a wander around?

February? Gah! Mines towards the end of January and I usually have a fabulous time! I don't have to factor kids in any more though. 🎂 to you

@Davros what fabulous things do you do if you don't mind me asking? Looking for ideas!

Do you have a partner or someone who can have the boys overnight?

If so, the best birthday I've had recently (March birthday) was my 'mumcation'.

I had a night away in a local hotel. I had a whole king sized bed to myself. I had a bath without anyone barging into the bathroom. I drank champagne in bed, ordered room service and watched TV that was not CBeebies.

I slept for 10 hour and woke naturally. I had a shower without an audience and went for breakfast in a local coffee shop. I didn't have to wipe anyone's mouth, take anyone to the toilet, wake up in the night.

It was bliss.

What Twizbe said.
No, really. When children were younger I'd try to do something in school time. I am an old gimmer now but it would usually involve an exhibition, gallery or somewhere interesting, followed by a big, long lunch. I often have one day I spend with my sister. We have done Tower of London (in glorious sunshine), BBC tour which was hilarious, Battersea Power Station, Kew Gardens etc etc. We are of an age and type!

Husband has his January birthday on August Bank Holiday. Far better time of year and people want to eat and drink and do stuff, which they don't in early January!
