Has anyone had to have an MRI for a lump in a muscle?

I went for an ultrasound today for a suspected lipoma.
The doctor said the lump was actually deep in the muscle so she couldn't see it. She said I need an MRI. This has really scared me.

Has anyone had this before, and if so what was the outcome?

Hi had an mri for breast cancer. Not the exactly the same but they are used for a variety of reasons.

Thank you for the reply. I hope you are well now.

I am wondering if lumps in the muscle are often benign

The (10 minute) ultrasound didn't provide a diagnosis. So therefore they've referred you for a MRI instead (30-45 mins, almost certainly with a dye/contrast injection).

It is almost definitely, certainly a lipoma. A MRI will almost certainly confirm that. Or might discover a liposarcoma. Your chances of the first diagnosis are very high. But if you get the second, action will be swift.

Also, kindly, username27645346755 or whatever, isn't well regarded on MN. It's seen as trolling.

Oh hi @Elisabeth3468 I haven’t been on here in so long.

after many more scans and appointments.. the 2 week referral etc. it turns out to be an AVM. I am still awaiting more scans and results.

What's an AVM? X

@user294858 what's an avm?

LoremIpsumCici · 03/10/2024 23:08

Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) happen when a group of blood vessels in your body forms incorrectly. In these malformations, arteries and veins are unusually tangled and form direct connections, bypassing normal tissues.

Not cancer, but still needs surgery.

user294858 · 04/10/2024 07:05

Yes as above has explained. Doesn’t need surgery. I have the option but all the vascular people I have seen have advised me to leave it alone.
