I've got a 9 year old boy, but his gifts were unisex. He asked for SpyBots. We got him two.

They've been a huge hit, and I'm forever walking into a room that they're 'protecting'. Including my own bedroom!

Another vote for show tickets though. He and I went to see Frozen in London over October half term, and he loved it!

My nephew got the mixling cauldron and he was really disappointed with it.

Dsd 8 is young for her age. She got
Scooter with light up wheels
Rubicorns (loves all these opening things)
Rainbocorn
Little live pets
Crazy sensations
Real little backpack
Real little cutie
Loom bands and scubedoo strings (my idea)

None of it for an 8yo imo but all things she loves She loves anything 'surprise' or collectable and often ends up with doubles but she doesn't mind

I saw a little boy 6yo at the park wearing a watch his mum phoned him on. I thought that was a brilliant gift for dsd but her mum bought her a phone instead

A friend of hers has it which is why she wants it - seems a lot of money though.

My 8 year old got

  • Meccano
  • PJs
  • Lots of books (mixture of Belgian style comics, age appropriate novels - "the fart that changed the world", comics - I recommend anything by Jamie Smart, and graphic novels)
  • Nintendo switch game to share with her sisters
  • chocolate

She was very happy.

Her birthday coming up later this year, I will be getting her a microscope, one of those educational circuit boards, and probably more books 😀

My 8yo hasn't really been into toys for a few years so I always struggle with her. Christmas was a hit though, we got her her own Drafting table & lots of art supplies, posca pens have been her favourite, she is excited about her water paints, we are going to book her into a painting class.

Other hits were a nice makeup case & a variety of makeup, she likes experimenting with designs. And she got lots of clothes, Nike sportswear and some nice going out fancy bits too.

She loves painting etc has quite a lot of craft. Got some nice sportswear for Xmas. And she’s still a Joules unicorn girl too so I’ve got loads in the Joules sale.

We're in a similar position. DD2 gets all DD1s hand me downs!

The one thing DD2 loves is art stuff. Got her table easel, canvases, acrylic paints and brush set.

She likes Beano and Dogman! Has a Beano subscription. Loves playing piano so maybe some new music.

I saw the circuit board in JL I might make it an Easter gift.

Between the two of them they get a lot!! I really struggle as I didnt have a lot as a child and I find it all overwhelming.

I know the feeling @ItsACrater. We got very little as kids as parents hadn't much to spare. I feel mine as so spoilt.

We tend to do show tickets, gig tickets now for DD1 and dinner out at a restaurant of their choice. I also stash any birthday cash into savings.

Yes this is a good idea. We are going to a special place of her choosing on her birthday which will cost quite a bit.

But I can’t say I’m the only one that does all this, perhaps other children did have a lot and we just didn’t. DH comes from a wealthier family but even my MIL finds it quite overwhelming because my DDs have quite a lot of friends and my friends do a lot for them too. It’s just all too much. And I don’t have space or capacity to store it all. Mentally and physically!!

Dd1 turns 8 this month.

Pixobitz have been a big hit and there's refill packs.
Lego
Tamagotchi but it drains batteries like anything.

Lego dots
Stationery
Dressing gown and slippers
Unicorn pug lip balm from Claires

I know for her birthday she has mentioned some new pictures for her bedroom wall as the numbers and cour posters are definitely too young now. Might get her another Squishmallow but a larger one. I am looking at Gravitrax, I think she will love it but dh isn't convinced.

My eldest has gravitrax they do enjoy it but not anymore than a regular marble run! Something broke on it - I think it’s quite delicate. Bought Pixobitz after a PP mentioned it and refills

Has dressing gown (hand me down) slippers too! She does love bed socks so could look at new ones!
