Will UC understand that I can’t work ?

Will they do an assessment without any formal diagnosis or is it needs based so if I tell them my difficulties they’ll assess on that or do you have to have conditions formally diagnosed ?

I think this is right. Perhaps write it down to take with you so you cover everything just in case you can't say it to the GP.

This is an excellent idea. You could even print this thread off? You've been very eloquent in describing your issues here.

I’ve worked in the past, multiple jobs actually in my 20s. I ended up extremely ill things are worse now and there’s things I can’t do and I don’t know why . I have some symptoms that are extremely odd and I don’t know why if I’m in an environment where I feel uncomfortable I guess I lose the ability to talk . I can’t think straight, I have what I think is some kind of panic attack ? I feel overwhelmed and these attacks make me sleep for days afterwards . It causes migraines too with aura.
I sometimes feel like there’s something wrong with my hearing and eyesight I wonder if I’m photosensitive as I often find things too bright etc. I think it’s phobias that have developed and got worse to the point it gives me physical symptoms some kind of anxiety / panic attack type disorder

Hazarding an educated guess you're running low in magnesium. Supplementing with magnesium citrate could help with the migraines, the sound and light sensitivity and the anxiety.

dicker · 06/01/2023 23:00

they’ll definitely want ‘proof’ of your illnesses otherwise the system would be abused by people that aren’t ill but say they are. you don’t need qualifications for call centre/admin work that you can do from home

It could be I don’t have the best diet (previous eating disorder)

Something like 50% of GP consultations involve mental health conditions. Don’t be embarrassed to see your gp they will have helped people like you before. There’s lots of therapy online these days if you struggle to get out the house. Perhaps if you spoke to the job centre they could look at training options or match you with a job that you could do. Something work from home? Proof reading? Or would you feel able to do contract cleaning in empty offices?

thaegumathteth · 06/01/2023 23:02

I mean this kindly but all this hiding behind your dp efc hasn't helped has it? You're no further forward with feeling better. Plus it's not fair on your dp tbh.

You've got to try and help yourself and also realise the real world is out there and you can't expect to just be believed and given money based on what you say.

thaegumathteth · 06/01/2023 23:04

Also have you actually looked at jobs? You seem to be ruling yourself out of a lot based on assumptions?

IDontCareMatthew · 06/01/2023 23:05

What's your dp saying about this situation?

LangClegsInSpace · 06/01/2023 23:05

The first thing you need to do is brace yourself and go to your GP.

For benefits you will need a 'fit note' - your doctor needs to certify that you are not fit for work. They can do this short term without a diagnosis but you must explain your difficulties.

It sounds like you have been struggling for a very long time without help. It's worth considering whatever help your doctor can provide. Things may have changed a lot since you last needed help.

Next, you need to ask the UC people for a UC50 form which will begin the assessment for limited capability for work / work related activities. MH websites like Mind and Rethink have lots of suggestions for completing these forms and you can also contact CAB etc. if you can't face filling it in on your own.

Regardless of any benefit claims, please visit you GP. Life can be so much better than this.

Yes both of those but would I need gcses for proof reading ? I could clean if it was definitely empty and I could get on alone and in silence

You will encounter people at every step, there's no employment which doesn't involve interaction

Overthebow · 06/01/2023 23:14

OP you're going to have to go to your GP. You need to go through them to get signed off and get medical help/evidence.

In the mean time could your DP work a second job, or is there anything you can do workwise? There must be something you could do.

What condution do you think you have?

IDontCareMatthew · 06/01/2023 23:19

Do you have children op?

ChaoticCrumble · 06/01/2023 23:20

It sounds very difficult OP. Do you have children? Do you have to deal with others (school, bank, shops) in day to day life?

i think finding a GP (ideally one on a good day who has time to talk) is essential as a first step

You really should try a few jobs and go to gp too. Lots of people would rather not work as its more comfortable or better for their health if other pay for them to stay at home but it not fair. Some people honestly can't physically work, you need to try lots of roles and see what works for you.

Welpthereitis · 06/01/2023 23:23

I have recently been diagnosed with new on set seizures have multiple a week and some times multiple a day I work with Sen children (have been suspended at the moment due to me being a hazard) I have been told by uc I have to start looking for new job I have doctor’s neurologist specials and on all different types of medication if that gives you an idea, I have started to look into working from home training in a different area

VeggieSalsa · 06/01/2023 23:23

Commercial cleaning could work. The cleaners at my offices are mostly non English speaking, and usually have their headphones in. They smile at anyone who is still in the office when they clean (which is very few people) but I’ve never seen them say a word to anyone in my ten working years!

IDontCareMatthew · 06/01/2023 23:24

Maybe yet tightening up on finances and seeing if the 2 of you can now manage on a smaller wage as I honestly doubt you will get anything from UC

Tigertigertigertiger · 06/01/2023 23:26

I think you’re looking at this from the wrong angle.
instead of thinking I need to visit my GP To convince them I can’t work , you should be visiting your Gp so they can help you get better.

this is no way to live

LangClegsInSpace · 06/01/2023 23:28

Start small, build slowly. Could you manage a couple of hours volunteering each week? Something like a local environmental group or community garden might suit - plants are a helluva lot easier than people IME (you still will need to deal with a few people).
