My dc trip me up every day, drives me mad

Do yours do the same? Dc 7 and 4 are completely unable to walk in a straight line. They dawdle, stop unexpectedly in the most awkward of places, stop halfway down the stairs etc. They inevitably tripe up, then moan at me if I accidentally catch their ankle or something ony way down.

Today it's just driven me mad. Do yours Do the same, have you found a way to stop it?

Make them walk in front of you?

autumnboys · 06/01/2023 14:09

Yes, all three of mine did this. They grow out of it, but it is annoying until they do.

Relocatiorelocation · 06/01/2023 14:13

@Tamarindtree they do! We'll be walking to school, same route every day, and for absolutely no reason one of them will stop dead, then we all clatter into eachother like a stupid comedy sketch, then they moan at me.
@autumnboys when do they stop? Tell me its soon 🤔

Dd 17 is a nightmare for this. Death stare every time.

Are your DC actually cats?

Also you asked when it stops, my DH is 42 and still can't walk in a straight line, unexpectedly stops and hovers in doorways when I am clearly moving from one room to another so....

SproutsLCerVEGNoEgg · 06/01/2023 14:22

Kids just do!

when it's really a problem when out I'd tell them they have to walk holding my hand. At home I just give them time to get ahead on the stairs etc.

im not telling you when they grow out if it, because I don't want to depress you!!

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 06/01/2023 14:22

My 10yo likes to walk alongside but has a habit of slooooowly leaning in to me until she’s steering me off the path. Drives me fucking nuts.

BertieBotts · 06/01/2023 14:27

Sorry but my DH still gets pissed off at me for doing this Grin My mum used to go on about activating my radar because I would constantly bump into people or stand in their way.

I have pretty bad prioperception (sense of where body is in space) and I think it's related to this. Am always walking into furniture etc. Are they not v sporty? You could try some exercises to improve their hand eye coordination or balance, that might improve prioperception and help them to be more aware of where they are.
