Hi,

Looking at flying out to see family.

I'm on some injections which are stored in the fridge. They need to stay cold otherwise can't be used and are very expensive.

Does anyone have any experience of travel cool box things?
Hospital have recommended one brand but they are nearly £100 for a little one so thought I'd ask here too.

Thank you

The airline can store if you ask. Are there any mini plug in or usb cooler devices as most longhaul have sockets.

Check with the airline as they may store for you

You could contact airlines disability assistance unit regarding this. Aeroplanes have fridges, so they might be able to have space for a cool box during the flight. Then you’d only need the cool box for the airport bits.

I've done this. I think I just used a normal ice bag thing and asked for fresh ice during the flight. To be honest, after the first time, I didn't bother anymore and just skipped my meds when I was away but I only take my injections every two weeks and can skip one every now and then

ChronicallyFucke · 05/01/2023 17:39

I thought about skipping injections but leaves me without use of my hands and makes my other illnesses worse unfortunately so can't really do that. Less stress to not take them but no fun if I can't feed myself there.

Once we Book I will email the disability team thank you! Didn't think of that. That's why I asked here.

I've tried ice in a bag for other meds on long haul, tried ice blocks too they didn't keep the medication cold and it went off unfortunately.

Yes, I took my Crohn's meds on a 9 month round the world trip and had to keep it between 2 -8 degrees at all times.

For long flights/coach travel I used this medical ice box with a digital thermometer on the outside. Depending on the outside temp it would keep it cool for 16-20 hours.
