Sugar free snacks for 3 year old

Motherofmonsters · 05/01/2023 16:33

Hello,

I'm ashamed to say my 3 year old had to have a filling today as she had a cavity in her tooth.

I'm looking for some ideas for sugar free snacks, she's a bit of a grazer.

Thank you

At home or out and about?

Just anytime really.

I try not to do snacks while we're out but I usually go with crisps and a soreen bar which isn't great for teeth

I assume natural sugars are okay, it would be very hard to cut out else

Surely in terms of teeth natural sugars are the same as added sugar? Difference being that foods with natural sugar (ie fruit) had lots of other beneficial vitamins, minerals and fibre.

i would say the more important thing is good teeth brushing and drink only water or milk

You're probably right about it being all sugars. She did say use veg as snacks

She said it would be diet as her teeth are clean. She did mention not drinking squash.

I really struggle with this because my DD is a terribly fussy eater and DS isn't amazingly better either when it comes to veg. So far DD's teeth are ok but it does worry me, DS not seen a dentist yet.

Things I give them that aren't so sugary: crisps, crackers either plain or with hummus/Marge/soft cheese or little blocks of hard cheese on, cucumber sticks, my youngest will eat red bell pepper sticks too and sometimes give with hummus. Quorn picnic eggs or cocktail sausages (we are vegetarian). Breadsticks, sometimes with hummus or soft cheese. Plain yoghurt. Crumpet or potato cake or English muffin with marge or marmite. Organix I think it is does little packs of like cheesy biscuit things too.

Eggs or crudités with dips.

Bad teeth can also be genetic or a result of antibiotic exposure early in life (including in the womb) so don't beat yourself up if you're feeding her well and brushing her teeth.
