Why is the Baby Bjorn Bouncer raved about so much?

Genuine question- what makes it so different to the £16 one I got from Argos for DD? Everyone raves about it so I must be missing something.

I’m pregnant with no. 2 and need very little new kit so could be talked into a splurge on it if there’s some reason why they’re so highly rated.

I had one for my last DC. It was v good but first DC had a mothercare one that also did the job well although slightly less bouncy.

They don’t use them for long so I’d either buy second hand or get a non baby-Bjorn one. Don’t be drawn in by the toddler chair thing, toddlers don’t sit still for long enough 😆

Didn’t have one. More plastic landfill.

I got one on the recommendation of a friend because baby had v. Bad reflux and it allowed him to be relatively upright while still being very supportive.

It isn’t actually plastic by the way!

We were given one as a generous gift from a family member. They look nice, have removable washable seats and bend back on themselves so baby bounces as they move. Customer service is great. I wouldn’t recommend a splurge on them though, imo chain store bouncer chairs are just as good.

And you can get plenty on Facebook marketplace. They are much more expensive than when I bought one 3 years ago.

@GuineaPorcus that's a strange view. I had a mamas and papas one. It was metal frame and fabric. I expect the Baby Bjorn one is similar. Mine was inherited from my sister in law and I believe she got it from someone else before. I passed it on to a children's charity.
So it was used by at least 6 babies over the years - possibly more after I had it.
So hardly 'landfill'.

It was the only thing we bought that meant I could genuinely put my baby down for 5 minutes. She was born with allergies and a hernia and was the most miserable baby I’ve ever known (she was number 4 so a bit of a shock temperament wise). We had tried EVERYTHING including stupidly expensive motorised swings, vibrating chairs, the lot. It can go very upright, and even their own small movements make it gently bounce. The toy bar was also at just the right height even when she was very little. We got ours secondhand but it was a total godsend. My mum had similar for my little brother and sister back in the 90s, a cheap fabric over a wire frame thing from Mothercare, but we couldn’t find a cheaper one like that when we looked.

There’s no plastic in it. Metal frame, removable, machine washable seat.

I think they’re worth it if you get 2+ more babies’ worth of use out of it. It’s been a while but the best things about it were (1) removable cover that went in the wash and dried quickly on the frame (2) baby rocks it by itself (3) nothing to break (4) folds completely flat (5) low to the ground. Generally speaking our Baby Bjorn stuff looked just as good after two babies as after one, and we handed everything into cousins who also passed things on. It’s been almost 15 years for some stuff! So, well worth the cost but only because we bought at the outset.
