24 or 48 hour rule after sickness.

Used to the 48 hour rule at primary.

ds was sick a couple times today right at the end of school. I've not spoken to any of the staff as they sent him home as usual as it was so close to the end of the day! He's not been sick since but pale and off food.

i would have assumed 48 hour rule but their website says 24 hours.

is 24 hours long enough if they've had a bug?!

I thought it was 48 rule for school.

secondary doesn't seem as strict as primary!

Secondary school are shit when it comes to letting kids have time off for illness. When my daughter developed Covid symptoms (she did have Covid) they didn't contact me at all. Just sent her away. She was so ill by the time she made it home (and I work there!)

Surely it doesn't matter the 'rule' - he isn't well so shouldn't be going back?

If he was sick at e.g. 2pm on Wednesday, it is not 24 hours until 2pm on Thursday, so can't go back until Friday morning anyway.

You can't send them back at 9am on Thursday as that is not even 24 hours.

i think you missed the point in my post. I said I was used to the 48 hour rule, I was willing to keep him off for 48 hours. The school state on the website it's 24 hours, which I was surprised at and feels too soon.

I know that 😅 at no point did I say I was sending him back tomorrow??

I have always stuck to the 48 hour rule. I was surprised that it was 24 hours on the schools website so if he's not sick again he can go back Friday, but with the 48 rule it would be Monday!

I have learnt this since September too. Seems they are so keen to keep their attendance rates up that they want sick kids in!

they didn't contact me today to say he'd been sick but it did happen near end of school. I was surprised when he got home and said he'd been sick and his trousers were covered in sick (he gets a mini bus to school, thankfully he was not sick on the journey home 🤞)
