Bus stop button

I was recently in Richmond, London and was waiting for a bus near Kew Bridge Station. At the bus stop was a triangular post with the printed timetables for the various buses, and below each timetable was a button.
Pressed it (because I am nosy), but hailed the bus I wanted as it approached.
Did the button have a purpose? I couldn't see that anything had happened.

I don't live in London, so didn't know if this was something standard.

Google suggests that it lights the timetable slightly so you can see it in the dark. I'll need to test it next time I see one.

Is it the button to light it up when it's dark?

Needmorelego · 03/01/2023 23:57

It is apparently a light. I expect very few of them actually work 🤣

Ours have recently been replaced and the button plays a message letting you know when the next bus is going to be there, it's an accessibility tool for visually impaired users. They're also replacing bus shelters with new ones that have living roofs of grass and other plants to encourage wildlife and insects.

And they're was me thinking it might have signalled to the bus driver to stop there! 😚
It certainly didn't light up the timetable.
