Dental procedure tomorrow. I'm shitting myself

Prior to 2022 I'd not been to the dentist for years and years. I started a thread here and people were amazing at getting me to go

Ice been a couple of times to put a plan in place and have my teeth cleaned

I'm booked in with a dental surgeon tomorrow (not my usual practice- they had to refer me to a different place for this) to remove the bit of my tooth that's left below the gum line after the rest snapped off.

I'm shitting myself - does anyone know what I can expect please?

I have the dentist tomorrow too, seeing if I need a tooth removed. I. Get anxious about the dentist but mainly about the needles. I have had lots of dental treatment in the past including extractions, it’s usually pretty quick and you don’t really feel much tugging (sometimes none at all).

Thanks so much everyone.
I've neglected my teeth for years - I brush them obviously but no dentist visits! (and was never taken as a child)

I need quite a few things doing but nowhere near as much as I feared given my lack of upkeep!

I couldn't tolerate the camera in my mouth so had to go to this practice for a different x-ray so at least I know where I'm going

I completely understand your anxiety. I went to the dentist today for the first time in four years. I was shaking in the chair.

A few years ago I had a tooth extracted. The tooth had been crowned and it broke when eating chocolate, also breaking the tooth left under the crown. There was only about 2mm of tooth left showing. It had to be removed but honestly there was no pain and took less than a minute to remove the tooth. Just close your eyes and focus on your breathing.

I promise that you will be fine, the hardest part is the worrying about it.

Let us know how you get on.

I used to worry about what the dentist thought of my teeth, I wasn’t taught oral hygiene but now all my work has been done I’m out of pain and my teeth look ok, dentist have literally seen it all before and are used to it you’ll be fine good luck x

With modern anaestetic it will be painless. Close your eyes and try to relax.

I spent an hour and a half having root canal. I felt nothing. Far more uncomfortable was the follow up hygienist appointment.

Honestly, don’t worry. I had a very similar procedure and was in and out faster than a trip to Aldi!
Completely painless too.

Good luck @Workyticket

Thank you. My appointment is at 2.30 (the irony!) Still bricking it if I'm honest!

Probably a bit late now but my Dad has had an implant and his dentist always tells him to focus on wiggling his toes during procedures! Dad says it does work as you aren't then tensing up waiting for pain which may not arrive.

Workyticket · 04/01/2023 15:30

I'm done! Took 25 minutes - I was shaking like a leaf but he was so lovely and reassuring

3 stitches and lots of numbing needles but it's done! Thank you all so much ❤

@Workyticket well done. It must be such a relief now that it's all done. I'm pleased that it's all over
