Can anyone recommend a UK outdoor/adventure holiday for teens please?

2 boys age 13 and 15. We're looking for:

-mountain biking
-paddle boarding/kayaking
-a big hill walk
-caving
-rock climbing

Accommodation:

2 beds, 2 baths
Hot tub
Detached if possible.

Any ideas of areas please? We've done Yorkshire a lot so would like to try somewhere new. Don't particularly want a forest type/centre parks holiday. Budget for accommodation is £1500 for the week. We're based in the Midlands so happy to travel North or South.

North Wales will get you all that. I can't recommend specific cottages with hot tubs but £1500 looks like the going rate. Either look near llanberis where all the adventure stuff is right on your doorstep and you can literally walk straight up Snowdon OR head to the coast and stay somewhere like Caernarvon or Conwy ( if they might want a beach or a shop too) and do day trips for the hill walk. They might want to skip the caving in favour of insane ziplines once they find out about Zipworld. I know we have hired kayaks all over Snowdonia but if they want white water there are guided treks etc too. Other option is Borders and the 7 Stanes MTB tracks. You can definitely do a decent hill walk, kayak trip and MTB ride round there. Less sure about caving. I think the Borders are excellent value for money for accommodation though as someone who likes hill- walking and used to climb and keeps thinking I will again prefer Wales for that. Sea-kayaking is good round Galloway if they want to do that.

They would enjoy coasteering On the isle of Purbeck , Dorset. Lots of options for cottages.

I know you’ve done Yorkshire but I’d recommend How Stean Gorge. They do almost all the activities you’re looking for and some more.

Does how stean gorge cater for families or is it mainly groups, like school groups? Looks lovely

MrsPnut · 03/01/2023 21:03

@Tumty They cater for everyone. It’s a great place that my best friend’s parents owned until last year.
The staff are lovely and very experienced, I’d recommend it all day long.

Wow, thanks everyone! Some really great suggestions. Off to do some googling!

When I was at school (ahem a long time ago) the kids always went to some place called 'Menai' for this type of stuff. I assume the same as Menai Bridge / Straits - there must be adventure camps and outdoor sports camps there.

North Wales ! We did gorge scrambling , that was loads of fun. Snowdon, zip line, paddle boarding on lakes

SportsAndExerciseMedicineDoc · 05/12/2023 06:09

Another vote for North Wales here. You could base yourself out of Betws-y-Coed. Great location and easy access to all the activities you mention. https://www.visitbetwsycoed.co.uk/The-Area/Adventure-Activities/

I'm sure I've seen that zipworld betws-y-coed is putting in hot tub lodges, that would be a good base for north wales
