SodaStream

Looking at buying a SodaStream. Would be used for both sparkling water and drinks such as Pepsi.

A bit confused about the different models though! Anyone got one and can tell me what the real difference is between models and which you'd recommend?

I've got a Genesis and it works fine. Have you seen the price of the refills though? I'm pretty convinced it is cheaper to buy sparkling water. The cannisters are a hassle to get rid of too.

We worked out that it was cheaper (just) than buying 2L bottles of fizzy juice... plus the less plastic was appealing. Making me think I need to do my sums again...

I think ours is a genesis, but basically I got the one with the best value deal at the time!

We use it loads for water, squash, pepsi/7Up and I get tonic syrup for my g&t too.

It's saved so much plastic use. And saves us money.

I have a duo - uses glass and plastic (reusable) bottles
i love it but only use for sparkling water
gas bottles are switched at the supermarket - £23 for a gas bottle but they take £10 off if you take an empty canister - I believe you can sign up for a similar postal exchange with soda stream

saved so much single use plastic

We have an Aarke which is the same concept but looks a lot better in my opinion.

We have one, and exchange used gas canisters for refilled ones at Lakeland - v easy. Ours has blue canisters, but I think newer ones are pink. Blue ones are slightly cheaper, but not interchangeable.

Some versions have a one touch button for fizzing - ours you have to hold down/keep pressing but it means you can vary the fizziness to taste.

Ours has 3 glass bottles, we prefer the look of them on the table, and we try to keep 2 bottles in the fridge at all times. Can’t remember the name of it, but very happy, though it cost more than the plastic bottle versions. We get through 1-2 litres a day, and a gas canister lasts us about 3 months, so worth it for us.

I have a genesis it's good but don't get that model as it's difficult to get replacement bottles

We’ve had one for 3 years. They’re not a massively cheaper alternative, but we used to buy 4 x 2L sparkling water and 2 x L Pepsi every week. That’s over 24 bottles a month. Over 36 months that’s 864 empty plastic bottles. I don’t think you can put a price in that in environmental terms.
We have a refill deal where we get 12 gas canisters for around £100, lasts us a year. A canister does about 60 litres. So we’ve spent maybe £300 in gas in 3 years which equates to 2160 litres at 13.8p per litre.
when we’re due to order a new refill pack I do it online and drop the empties at the local shop that does parcel collections.
