Paid Clinical Trials

I was wondering whether anyone has experience of volunteering or working in paid clinical trials? Would it be a good way for a student to earn easy money? Am thinking of my DS, 18, who is at uni so probably looking at summer time. Thanks

Why would you want your DS to take part in trials and suffer possible side effects? They do try to make the trials ‘as safe as possible’ but they aren’t a no risk situation. It’s not something I’d want my teen doing tbh.

maybe you don’t remember this?

Not something I would encourage. A job would be a much better option and give him some useful experience.

Agree with above comments. My DB's friend died as a result of doing this. I'm sure protocols are much tighter now, but research very carefully.

why can’t he get a more usual job?

I work on clinical trials , the regulations are so strong that the chances of anything going wrong are minuscule. The clinics themselves are well set out with plenty to do, the food is not too bad and you get to meet people. Certainly recommend it for a young person.

It is a good way of earning money when you have time on your hands. I work in the area & wouldn't discourage my children from doing it. However I would vet any trials they were thinking of very carefully. There are plenty that would be extremely safe, but others I wouldn't touch with a barge pole.
