Gas and electricity 150 pounds
Food Christ knows what
Petrol which I need to get to work has gone up and need to find that on top of everything else until payday on the 27th
There's nobody I can borrow off and no loans I can take out I've sold as much stuff as I can
This is just a rant btw and a one person pity party

I'm on the other side of the pond, but it's the same here. I've been retired for 19 years, and my work pension has stayed the same (but the government pension is indexed). I feel like having a heart attack everytime I go to the grocery store. The official inflation rate is 9% but I have the impression grocery prices are up about 50%, and of course energy prices have gone up too.

So, I feel for you, but I'm no help.

Call your local council (usually county councils which do this unless you're in a city) and ask for the Local Assistance Fund. They will provide you with a £40 supermarket gift card. I know it's a drop in the ocean compared to the bigger picture but it could help you in the short term Flowers

Canadian & American grocery prices are astronomical! I nearly collapsed the first time I saw Canadian prices and I think it was even worse in the US!

That's useful to know never heard of such a thing before thanks

I honestly never used to look at food prices before now but when I was going round the shop the other day I thought hang on surely that's not right- so much seemed ridiculously expensive

Have you got any money on supermarket points cards you could use for food? Any money on Topcashback you could draw down? Could you borrow any cash from children's moneyboxes and replace when you get paid. Can you use up food from freezer so you spend less on shopping? Could you advertise to do cleaning/ironing a couple of mornings a week? You could ask for cash in hand. Sell some clothes, boots? You could ask for a month of mortgage holiday.

Hello everyone

We've had a number of reports from people concerned about this thread so, as we usually do in these circs, we're putting our heads round the door with some important reminders.

Right now we can't see any evidence to indicate that the OP isn't above board – if we did, we'd remove the thread straight away. But the truth is that, sadly, we at MNHQ can't know with 100% certainty that any poster is genuine, no matter who they are or how long they have been here. As frustrating as it is, we're not able to vouch for anyone here.

So we always ask users to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are – and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong. We strongly advise against parting with any cash or giving away your personal details, and if you receive a PM which makes you uneasy - report it to us and we’ll take a look.

Sorry to hijack your thread briefly there, OP – we really hope you get it all sorted soon Flowers

Oh well that's charming- I've already said I'm not after anything and have posted on many many threads but yeah report away 🙄
I'm just someone having a sh1t time and want to vent. I've spent half an hour in the toilet at work crying today as I just don't know what to do

Could you ask your employer for a salary advance?

I could do no idea how you go about it but it's worth a try !

QueenMabs · 03/01/2023 18:17

Yes, it's expensive!
What do you actually need between now and the 27th?

What do you have in the food cupboard, and how many do you need to feed? Freezer?

Pasta and tomato sauce is really really cheap and filling, porridge for breakfast made with half milk and half water milk is expensive.

Although I don't actually know what is the cheapest thing at the moment, eggs and milk, has shot up in price as pasta.

ladygindiva · 03/01/2023 19:04

My local church has a community food shelf with donations of food and toiletry items for those struggling to help themselves to. Have you seen if your local church does this?

workiskillingme · 03/01/2023 20:08

Petrol and food really also bills are due out
It will be okay in a few weeks when we start getting money that's coming in from various sources it's just that interim period where you are waiting with no back up

marrymeadam · 03/01/2023 20:12

Could you list what you have in cupboards and freezer etc so people could give you ideas for meals? How many are in your house?
