Why haven't we put pictures up on the walls yet?

We moved 3 years ago. Spent 2 years doing a full scale renovation. A year on, with lovely new walls and paintwork we cannot get motivated to get up into the loft and bring down the pictures we used to have up in our old house.

Why?

It doesn't just seem to be laziness. Perhaps It just feels like it's too many decisions to make after making a whole load of other decisions on building and decorating.

I miss having pictures up - and in reality if a picture doesn't look right you move it - yes?

So why am I still starting at blank walls?

Why don't you get them out of the loft and just put them in the rooms you think they will go in to start with. You can look at them in different lights and decide if they work, whether they need a new frame or if it would be too many, or even if you still love them. Next step send some to be reframed, get rid of some. Then plan a date for hanging some of them. Pictures don't always transfer to new spaces well so it would be worth spending some time looking at them in your new house.

The one we used will travel. Worth a look

It's true that pictures don't always transfer well. Old house was Victorian with high ceilings and picture rails and was light with big windows.

New house is Edwardian with lower ceilings and is darker.

Took us 2 years to put pictures up in our living room. Once we'd redecorated and decided we were doing it it took 2 days to decide on positions 🙈.

All done now, but worth it.

I'm glad it isn't just us.

We moved 6 months ago and still have a cupboard full of frames and a house full of empty walls. In all honesty, I don't think much of what we have will work in this now house but I can't bring myself just to chuck it all out and start afresh, so am delaying the whole process.

Sometimes it’s because the new pictures don’t fit the feel of the new house but you feel like you should put them up.

Can you go on Etsy and search for some new pictures that spark joy? Or is there a gallery near you that sells local artists work?

I think this. When we moved, I didn’t want to put some much loved pictures up. They belonged to (the feel of) the old house. I wanted new and fresh in this one (still looking for some, though).

@BarrelOfOtters i haven’t used them with very heavy mirrors / pictures but have used them with decent glass framed pictures and nothing has fallen down. I do it all by eye and have got pictures all over my house.
