Holders of annuity dies: remainder leftover to spouses but spouse's died ...where does it go?

You’ll have to contact them and get a copy of the annuity contract and go from there.

You mentioned they may not have realised the spouse predeceased the annuity holder. If this were the case, then the claims form is likely for the spouse they think is still alive to send them bank information so they can pay the annuity that would be due to them if they were still alive.

They sent me a letter, I contacted them, and they don't know, it will be a week before I get further support from them hence me asking.

It’s all quite odd. Guarantee you they are digging up the contract and the account information. When they call you, ask for copies of whatever they used to come up with whatever decision they give you.

Indeed but it must be because they have outstanding fund's they need to distribute.

Possibly there was a guarantee period and a residue to be paid. If they have been informed spouse is dead (who was letter addressed to?) and there is no guarantee period then you may be able to extract £50 and/or a bunch of flowers for emotional distress.
