Advice wanted - Roland/yamaha Digital piano..

Hello!

Up til now my daughter has been learning on a keyboard (I know I know) at home. She's managed to pass grade 2 and we're looking at digital pianos. We have no space in the house for a real one and the electric one will have to go in her room so space is still a consideration!

Does anyone have any thoughts on Roland fp10 or yamaha p45? Is either better?

The showroom did also suggest fp30/p125 but I think they're beyond budget. Are fp10/yamaha p45 okay for practicing a few more grades on. It's not her main instrument as it's not orchestral buy she does love playing and wants to improve...

Any thoughts very welcome as I am not at all musical.

The clavinova is far too big. I did like the Arius slimline linked further up but is out of our price range. But she could look when older.

Thanks everyone. The fp10 does say about the weightedness of it that the hammer action is heavier in the lower keys and lighter in the higher keys. I know it won't be the same but will be closer than what she's currently practicing on!

We have the Yamaha P45 and it's fabulous. It was recommended by our local music school as I explained that we didn't have room or budget for a regular piano. The sound is lovely and it does feel like you're playing a normal piano. We connect headphones so nobody else has to hear the practicing! And you can connect your phone/iPad with a midi USB connector. It's still quite large though, but anything with the full 88 keys is going to be at least a certain size.

Have a look for display models too, as well as second hand.

We have an Arius slim digital piano. It really is very compact and sounds so much better than a keyboard

I second the need for pedals. My DS is just finalising his grade 4 and two of the pieces he is playing both require pedalling. He and my DD play on a Casio PX 870 Previa which was about £850 from memory. I've got a Yamaha CLP765 grand which I don't let them near Grin

Both the ones I'm looking at come with a pedal - but reviews say it isn't brilliant - more on/off. But I'm thinking it will be better than what she has/a keyboard

Yes Arius looks great - maybe one day!

We've measured and the 88keys on the p45/roland fp10 are obviously longer than what she has but actually not as deep (very old keyboard she has is much deeper with faff and the speakers) so should fit well!

I bought a separate pedal to add to my Yamaha P45, think it was about £90.

My Mum's proper piano has two pedals but I never knew what the second pedal was for lol! I didn't even know you could get three pedals on a piano? That's big news to me.

We now have an FP10 and its fab! Lady in the shop said it would be great upto grade 7ish which is probably further than we'd go formally anyway!

It's perfect 😊. A very happy child.
