Fireworks - cost of living crisis ?

I don’t know where the cost of living crisis is, but it mustn’t be where I live. I’ve never known so many fireworks on NYE, they went on and on and on.
My poor dog was a wreck.

The vet told me that wildlife can be shocked to death by the loud firework noises. It's not only pets who suffer. We can give our pets medication to calm them, but wildlife just has to take its chances.

Never mind, as long as humans have fun eh? We're the most important species after all.

Animals die for all sorts of reasons. We can't stop everything.

Sydney's were better.

Made London's look like some bloke called Dave in a shell suit was setting them off with a Bic lighter.

Yes, and they usually spend double the amount...

Do you drive? Do you use gas to heat your home or cook your food? Do you eat meat?

Christ
The amount of miserable fuckers on here.
How depressing

Howmanysleepsnow · 01/01/2023 11:49

Really? I don’t remember ever seeing dead birds/ squirrels/ whatever the day after bonfire night or New Year’s. How prevalent do you think this is?

hotdiggetydog · 01/01/2023 11:51

How utterly joyless. Fireworks are wonderful! I love the bangs and colours

sale of fireworks should be banned for domestic use

The ones on TV in London were well OTT. My 12 yo dd sputtered in indignation - so much environmental damage for what? A load of fireworks we really don’t need. Keep it to a minute, stop charging people to go and see them, and give the surplus cash to people who need it (people on Ukraine hardly going to be comforted by loads of exploding fireworks, and in CoL crisis just burning money is an insult).

happy and peaceful new year to everyone

Sorry, I don't doubt it but this is so Mumsnet

Not really far to have dogs or cats living outside their natural habitat and with the COLC terribly expensive venture. Many dog owners don't pick up after their dogs and other end up stepping into it and endangering children.

TheChosenTwo · 01/01/2023 12:48

We had fireworks last night and we all really enjoyed them. Okay, my 2 year old niece wasn’t keen!
They were leftover though from ds birthday which is actually November 5th so we always buy a load for that and then save some for new years too.
we don’t have a dog though so I reckon over the course of a year of treatments, food, insurance, vet bills, grooming costs, leads, poo bags etc it’s probably evened out.

Toiletfriend · 01/01/2023 12:49

Having a dog is very expensive, no?

PinkArt · 01/01/2023 13:43

£2mil is about 20p per Londoner. Pretty good value for money given that's less than a Freddo.
