Inoffensive music recommendations for guests?

I'm having a group of people over - some of which I don't know too well. I always like to have a bit of background music when I'm at home and when I have guests over, but always worry that my music choice will irritate them. I mainly listen to my own Spotify playlists (a lot of variety) and the radio. Radio stations I would put on would be

Heart
Magic Soul (Motown era)
Kiss
Heart 80's (but not usually for company)
Heart Christmas (but I'm done with that now!)

I'm not looking to please everyone because that's impossible. But just want to ensure it's not like nails on a chalkboard for my guests.

If you went to someone's house what kind of music would you say would be the most un offensive and tolerable - enjoyable?

I’d say Motown is generally a safe bet. Also swing style music, Sinatra etc.

It depends on the age range of your guests really!

New Years?
Buble

All of those would have me putting my coat straight back on a going home! But then I’m a Slipknot and punk fan. Radio 6 is fine.

Not very helpful... but I can't stand music in the background... have you checked your guests do?

Same, I have sensory processing issues and I can't filter it out to keep track of conversations.

I always have sade on when guests are over for dinner/ gatherings. Very relaxing peaceful songs and voice.

I'd always put on what I call "easy listening" albums such as BeeGees, Abba, Cliff Richard, Olivia Newton John, maybe Elvis, maybe Soul, Motown? (I was a teen in late 70s, early 80s as you can tell, so I'm biased). No heavy metal, punk, rap, etc as it needs to be easy listening background music.

But, I'd also consider nothing at all, as background music can become distracting/annoying, especially for any guests with hearing aids etc.

Totally depends on the guests unfortunately. I would not choose anything with a strong beat as it can be too overpowering. Motown would be right out for me - I hate it.

I'd go for something fairly ambient from e.g. Fleet Foxes, Birdy, Lord Huron, Tori Amos, Elbow, Neil Finn.

Spotify has a series of playlists callled Easy 80's/90's/00's/10's and earlier decades I believe. I use them at work, easy non offensive background sound.

Thanks for the replies. I've never in my life listened to any BBC radio on my own accord so I'll scratch that off my list - I wouldn't even have a clue what one to listen to. I just know when I'm in someone else's car and they've had a BBC station on I've always disliked what was playing on it. Definitely no metal, rap, etc.

I'll probably go with Magic soul or something similar that's been suggested.
