Wellies, big calves, recommendations please!

Used to be a big fan of Aigle, even I could get my trousers inside the wellies, expensive but worth it.

Sadly they changed so much
quality wise and now only last up to 18 months before they start leaking. Bought 3 pairs in last 5 yrs and today got home with soggy sock ( only one so far).

Big calves( seriously, same size as my thighs), warm wellies- any recommendations please?

Huntress?

www.jileon.com

These are life changing

Neverthecornflakegirl · 29/12/2022 18:51

Definitely Jileon. My last pair lasted for several years with pretty much daily wear and I can walk for miles in them.

Dunlop wide fit from amazon

bloodyeverlastinghell · 29/12/2022 18:52

Muck boots do an adjustable extra wide version. I have the standard ones which are wide enough for my chunky calves but was going to try them if they didn’t fit. I think they are much the same as aigle though in lasting 18m ish and they cost about £120. I do a lot of work outside though and I want warm dry feet. I try and buy boots from Amazon warehouse you can search by size and brand. You can often get a 1/3 - 1/2 off.

Le Chameau do different calf widths and are good quality. Not cheap though. www.lechameau.com/women-s-chasseur-leather-lined-boot-9894#selection.color=5801&selection.size=5665

I've found the same with Aigle, OP, if I get 2 years out of a pair I'm quite chuffed.

I had a pair of Jileon that lasted about 3 weeks with regular dog walking, they're festival wellies not proper outdoor ones unless they've massively improved their quality. The only decent equivalent are Muck Boots (I've got really wide calves too) or Bareback footwear which is equestrian stuff but extremely durable. They often have sales.

bloodyeverlastinghell · 29/12/2022 18:59

l gave patched up boots worse than yours though. I use the glue that I bought for repairing inflatable boat from Amazon. It worked really well. Waterproof socks from sealskins for added peace of mind.

Tyne muck boots have a heel, gives extra grip.

Spanglybangles · 29/12/2022 19:41

See link below. Bit fancier than a welly but waterproof and are available in several calf widths. I have Ariats which work for my bigger than average calves.

I have the Dubarry wide calf, they fit my 17.5" calves beautifully

mizu · 29/12/2022 20:05

Shame about Aigle - had a pair for my 40th almost 10 years ago and they are still fab.

VinoEsmeralda · 30/12/2022 00:37

Muckboots are on my radar but what holds me back is they are not easy to step into, you have to pull them on which is time consuming I guess?.

Hunter/Jileon too narrow and Dunlops better value ( plus they fit) but not comfortable for long walks

Dubarry- ordered those but simply don't fit and ideally not leather wellies as they stay wet for so long

Like the idea of glueing, will try tomorrow!!

Chameau- yes might have to try them!!
