anyone know the covid isolation/visiting policy for hospital inpatients?

We have been told my mother has to isolate in a single room without visitors for 7 days after testing positive for covid whilst a hospital inpatient before transferring hospital. Is this current NHS policy? Can anyone direct me to any policy documents? Would there be different policy between different hospitals? She is in England and has no symptoms. Surely she could be negative tomorrow so we should be able to visit even if she cant transfer hospital? Thanks

Every trust has different policies. You need to ring her ward for their specific guidelines/policy.

I'd expect so. My Nan was on end of life care 2 weeks ago and covid had hit her ward. We were told we could still go due to her not having long but it was at our risk. I would have expected normal visiting to be cancelled.

thank you, I have been holding since 10am to the ward! I will drive there tomorrow to ask if I have to but was hoping someone here could direct me to the policy online or say if it is normal not to retest sooner or even each day. I cant imagine anyone will ever answer as I dont know anyone who has ever got through in the last 2 months as there are so few staff

They want to reduce the risk of spreading it around the hospital and the other hospital. Sounds a sensible measure given the vulnerability of many hospital partients.

if rather undoes the point in quarantine if you visit.

hope she is better soon

It will be Trust specific.

Our Trust, we isolate and test after day 5 but people often continue to be positive beyond that. Isolation is 10 days if still testing positive and then they can come out regardless.

No visiting.

Reducing spread of COVID is a real challenge in hospitals.

You will need to go .to the trusts website to look at their policy not everywhere will be the same. Or ring the hospital switchboard might direct you to someone who can help you. The ward sounds busy if you have been on hold for so long.

TangoAcid · 29/12/2022 18:20

If you can't get through to her specific ward, you could try ringing switchboard who can find out the ward policies on visiting, or direct you to another department for the info. Try the trust internet or send them a Facebook message also.

Spoken to someone on the ward but it doesnt appear to be a set policy. A doctor can decide when covid test is done and in this case they had decided 7 days isolation. None of the people sharing my mums ward have been tested since. Not sure why it couldnt be retested sooner as test was actually done 2 days before we were told about it anyway so that would be day 9 from taking test, day 7 from us being told result. No idea if it is 48 hour turnaround or what happened to delay it.

My dad was admitted with Covid on to a Covid ward back in September. We were allowed to visit but had to wear full PPE before going on to the ward.

South coast hospital.
