Heated throw for someone post knee replacement op?

Hello,

My Dad is having a knee replacement op and I was wondering whether anyone knows if a heated throw might be helpful for recovery (he is always cold). I know he will have to move about hence being unsure. Any experience of this?

thanks!

I’m not sure about the weight of it on the knee…maybe a heated gilet for his torso, and a wheat pack or hot water bottle to go under/over/around his knee, or under his feet, when sitting down?

Be careful, the cable could be a trip hazard especially if he is trying to use crutches as well.

I have the silent night one, it’s lovely, I highly recommend 🙂

Thanks @QueenOfWeeds , good ideas. The blankets are very light (not like weighted blankets) as my DDs have them. I had not thought about the weight though, it's a great point.

Double check with the surgeon whether a heated throw is advisable first. When I had my knee surgery I had a cold compress machine to help healing and was advised against hot baths

Thanks @woulducouldushouldu , I will wait and get one of my parents to ask as I can't. Appreciate the advice, no point getting it if not needed or actively unhelpful! Thank you.

My husband has recently had a total knee replacement. He was advised not to use any heat until at least 6 weeks post op. As per a pp cold packs are the best thing to use immediately post op.

I have just bought the Dreamland heated Sherpa throw from Lakeland (red and grey check, around £80). It's nice to wrap around you, light and keeps you toasty.

Speaking from my recent experience of a hip replacement, I can't see it causing a healing problem as it's not that hot. In fact, I'd definitely use it to keep warm if I was icing my knee (or, in my case, my buttock post surgery which wasn't a pleasant experience!).

Hope it goes well for him.

I had a knee replacement a few days ago and the booklets all say to keep warm. I have the Dreamland electric fleece. And the temp can be adjusted to low depending on how you feel and it is really light. I rest and sleep a bit as it is early days so being warm is important. I have an ice cuff and machine for my knee which I apply every hour or two for 20 min. It's been wonderful for pain relief.
