My daughter was assaulted by her father. She's a teenager and usually lives with him. She's now safe here with me and the police and a social worker are coming to see her. Can anyone tell me what the usual protocol is, what will happen, will he be banned from having contact with her and our other children? It's not the first time this has happened sadly but it's the first time that there's been a joint visit from the police and a social worker. Previous allegations and incidents have been deemed not meeting the threshold for intervention. The history here is long and complex but they are taking it seriously this time from what they are saying and I'm so relieved they are. What is likely to happen?

She will be interviewed, he will also be interviewed. How this happens will depend on what she says. She may also have to go to hospital for a medical check / photograph any evidence etc.

Some more info here about assaulting a child.

Thank you. Previously the police have just seen her and taken notes and referred to social services who have said nothing meets the criteria for intervention.

I’m a social worker. It’s likely that he will only be able to have supervised contact whilst it is investigated, so she will remain living with you. Children’s Services burden of proof is different to that of the police, so even if the police choose not to follow it up, Children’s Services will still consider it risky.

There was/is a strategy meeting today or tomorrow about this latest incident. It is the most serious incident that's happened.

No advice but I really hope SS & the police protect your daughter @Sherlocks

Thank you.
Will this be a child protection conference matter? Is it a section 47 report that will be done? So many questions sorry.

The strategy meeting will be for all agencies to make decision about whether it will be a section 48 and whether it’ll be a single agency or joint highly likely to be joint social services and police investigation. If your DD will be living with you permanently from now on with only supervised contact then there may not be a child protection conference. If there are other children then there likely will be a child protection conference

Section 47 that should say (typo)

Why does she usually live with him, considering the history

Greenshake · 29/12/2022 00:00

Was this in the context of supposed ‘discipline’ or something else?

Sherlocks · 29/12/2022 10:13

I've been told it is a joint investigation.
She lives with her dad because the court ordered that she could choose where she lives because they said she was old enough to make that decision. I have raised serious concerns for 10 years about him but despite several court proceedings the court always granted him access and he most recently went for full custody. Dd2 lives with me but dd1 chose to live with her dad. Their dad has other children with another ex that stay with him but don't live with him. They are much younger.
No, it wasn't discipline, it was anger. She was grabbed, dragged and thrown to the floor.

I feel angry because I feel no one really listened when I raised all the concerns time and time again. Not a year has gone by in 10 years that we haven't been to court over contact. We are in the exact situation I feared we'd be in and dc are the ones paying the price. Both dc have raised worries about how they're younger siblings are treated by their dad so this is not an isolated incident and only towards one dc although Dd bears the brunt of it and always has. Ex had moved his abuse from me to Dd.
