Half board holidays in Italy

Can anyone recommend a half board hotel in Italy for the summer holidays? Ideally around Naples or somewhere else coastal. For a family of four (two young children).

Thank you!

I'm finding it hard to gauge 'value' - is £1200 for 7 nights in Sardinia for a single room (for the whole family) good value? It doesn't seem to get much cheaper unless you go for an apartment, but we want a big pool and breakfast.

I guess it depends when, where and facilities included. It sounds good value for summer to me.

Why not Ischia, lovely island and lots of hotels that do half board and close to Naples?

Isn't it like a three hour ferry crossing from Naples?

I remember it being a little nerve wracking stressful and worrying that we might miss the ferry back to get the plane. I didn't have children when I did it but I remember seeing stressed parents with children waiting to board and there being little shade and nothing to do but wait for what felt like hours. It added half a day more travelling each way than we had really anticipated.

from memory it was also very heavily catered towards to the German and Russian holidaymakers as well.

We went to Ischia 2019 and stayed in a lovely B&B not too far from Ischia Porto. As we didn't have a car the hydrofoil from Naples was very frequent and it really was a mixture of a lot of different nationalities, but mainly Italians. The natural spas were amazing so an added bonus

We went AI in Sorrento - didn't like Sorrento at all. Probably good as a base but as a venue it was horrible.

@OneFrenchEgg what didn’t you like about Sorrento? How far is it from other places?

OneFrenchEgg · 30/12/2022 17:32

So boring in the centre, every shop sold tourist tat, the crowded water front area you paid to sit / lie in, just not interesting to wander round. Such a different vibe to Florence, Rome, Verona etc. Really would only go back if I didn't have to spend time there and just used it as a base for day trips. There was a nice little village about 20 min walk away but that got old quite quickly.

There are buffet type arrangements at AI rather than half board. Few and far between in Italy, but a few nice ones in Sicily

Sorrento must be horrendous with young children- do you mean toddler age? All those steep hills, narrow pavements etc.

I'd just go SC if I were you OP and let them nibble on bread and cheese for lunch, casual cafe dinner.

I love Lake Garda so I am biased Grin but the half board menus would not have suited fussy children at all.

LIZS · 30/12/2022 19:52

Sorrento is narrow cobbled streets and "gift" shops. Not much space for kids to roam.

Thanks everyone - we went for Sardinia end of July (only £450 for fights for a family of 4 from London including luggage!) in the end, self catering. Very excited! If anyone has suggestions for accommodation with pool let me know!
