Does anyone have any tips on how to relax and do this.

Take a bite of bread, chew it to the point where you're just about to swallow, put the pill in your mouth, swallow it all. Bread works for me because even when chewed, it's quite thick so it hides the feel of the pill better.

I'm early 60s and cannot swollow round paracetomol - other tabs and capsules are fine. I have a tablet splitter and use that.

I developed an issue with swallowing a few years ago when I developed high anxiety due to anaemia. I didn't realise it was a side affect and it took a long time to start swallowing anything properly. I lost over 10kg in a very short time as I could only eat tiny amounts of ready brek or cup a soup.
I do struggle to take certain tablets more than others and it really is mind over matter. One day I can take an ibuprofen and then I start thinking about it and then I can't take them again. I have taken the pressure off by having soluble medication but I do have a tablet that I have to take two weeks on two weeks off which I struggle with. They are slightly oval squishy liquid filled and I always feel they get slightly stuck. I just drink a lot of water between pills and that helps. I try and do something when taking tablets, like out the box away or something and that just seems to be enough to take my kind off it and swallow. Thankfully they aren't proper floating capsules as I really cannot take them.
My dd takes lots of medication and she uses a dairy free choc pud to take them with. Some tablets she can now take with just water but that has taken her years to be able to do.

Thanks for all the helpful encouragement. It went down whole this evening.
