What would you say is a good price for:

  • 10 nights self catering
  • August
  • South/ South West UK
  • 2 x adults and 2 x kids
  • transport not included (I know it'll be about £100 petrol)

Thank you

It varies hugely, I mean from a butlins chalet to a luxury apartment or a country cottage. So it depends what you're after.

To be honest I would just look around and find something that meets your needs and suits your budget.

LadyDanburysCane · 27/12/2022 09:58

There are too many variables. What sort of accommodation? Caravan? Tent? Lodge? Rent whole house? Holiday park?

Facilities? En suite bathrooms? Hot tub? Pool?

we have one week in the New Forest in Feb for two of us in a little cottage for £800. A week in Derbyshire in August for three of us, with hot tub is £1500.

our holidays in the U.K. are definitely far more expensive than going abroad but we live in a beautiful country and travelling abroad isn’t very “green”.

poorbuthappy · 27/12/2022 10:08

£2k. We are paying £1800 for a week in a cottage in Cornwall in August. 5 of us plus dog

Shadowboy · 27/12/2022 10:10

Do want spending money for activities too? If so £3k cottage will be £2k for 10 days and then at least £100 per day for spending on stuff to do/food etc

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 27/12/2022 10:13

I reckon £4k for 10 days in the school holidays.

MegBusset · 27/12/2022 10:16

Most self-catering places only take full week bookings in the holidays so you're probably looking at paying for 14 days. South costs a lot more than north IME, probably looking at 1.5k a week

Simonjt · 27/12/2022 10:16

If it was a cottage I would expect to pay around £2,500 per week for something nice, but ‘basic’ so no pool etc, so maybe £3,000 minimum for ten days, I would imagine per day ten is pricier than 14.

upfucked · 27/12/2022 10:17

More than a week or 10 day all inclusive in September.

I suspect the cost of activities and food could easily cost another 2k.

AriettyHomily · 27/12/2022 10:19

I paid 2.2k for two weeks in a caravan for 2 adults and 2 kids in 2020, Weymouth. Couldn't bring myself to add up what we spent on activities / food etc.

We went to Ibiza for two weeks in august 2021 and spent less overall.

ChristmasChair · 27/12/2022 10:20

Too much!

Squarerootofpi · 27/12/2022 10:21

I did that for under £500 this summer. But only because I'm poor and couldn't afford anything else!

We camped on a non-electric pitch. I think we ate out once during the holiday, and shopped in Asda for the remainder. No paid for activities, lots of walks and beach days!

I already had all the camping gear as I'd bought 2nd hand bits slowly over the years. As pp have said, so many different variables and you could make it as cheap or expensive as you like.

Hibernatalie · 27/12/2022 10:23

OK looks like I've found a bargain! Thanks all - never booked anything like this before so wanted to feel it out.

It's 6 nights in Cornwall - self catering bungalow including leisure pass for onsite pool, playgrounds etc. We'll eat normal supermarket food but will eat out once or twice and do some beach days. Then 4 nights in Weymouth in a bed and breakfast, so that will cost more in food and activities. But accommodation for the 10 days with breakfast for 4 days comes to £1470.

You just need to find accommodations up to what you are willing to spend. We stayed at Bosinver Farm last year and loved it bosinver.co.uk

Just looked and a cottage for 4 coats £2300 a week.

If very cheap be cautious about a scam.

Caspianberg · 27/12/2022 11:25

Generally for a 2 bedroom self catering place, that sleeps 4, the base rate of an average place would be around £200 min per night. So £2000 for 10 nights.

If it’s in a nicer area, with extra features, a view or peak summer you would be looking at more in busy areas.

August, 10 nights, sleeps 4 = £2000-3000

Loads cheaper than this on airbnb right now.

@Hibernatalie - maybe there are. But £200 a night is roughly what you would pay for in general. That’s only £50 a night per person.

Don’t forget if your booking via air b and you probably have to pay booking fees and cleaning fees ontop.

WhiteFire · 27/12/2022 13:38

I would have said around £1500. My holidays are bumped up by needing accommodation for 5, for 4 the choice and price range is much greater.

LivingwithHope · 11/08/2024 12:21

BEWARE Air bnb add in costs can often double the price advertised also check any damage and cleaning deposits that will be asked for AFTER you’ve booked and which are returned at the discretion of the owner!!
