If I had a fever / became very unwell in the night, I’d wake up right?

oops sorry for the second post in two days. horrible hacking dry cough, can’t even take three bites from a slice of toast without feeling the urge to cough. also have goose pimples and chills on and off. i don’t have asthma or any know respiratory conditions but this is the worst cough I’ve had in my life

googled away and read that it could be pneumonia or a bacterial chest infection. i’ll go to urgent care tomorrow if I am no better. if I progressed and felt short of breath/it became a serious infection, the human body automatically wakes you up, right?

Are you home alone?

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 27/12/2022 00:17

Yeh I'd say so. You'd wake up hot or thirsty or coughing

PocketRainbow · 27/12/2022 00:18

@CuriousMama no I’m not, which is why I am worried more! Ha ha

Is there another adult?

PocketRainbow · 27/12/2022 00:25

@CuriousMama yes. Problem is I’ve read a post on a popular Facebook group about someone with really similar symptoms and they mentioned they think they have pneumonia. My brother is prone to pneumonia so it’s stuck with me!

Ah it might be the big non covid bug that's going round at the moment. Some people are coughing so hard that they are peeing themselves, vomitting etc. I'm on day 26 of it and still retch through coughing so hard, several times a day (and that's with antibiotics). Most people I've known haven't had it at had, but the cough can be brutal.

Honestly, cough and chills for a few days doesn't sound like an urgent care matter for me, but like a be regular virus (child or flu) that you'll you have to ride out. I wouldn't even be phoning the GP at this stage for my children with those symptoms, unless things got much worse.

Personally, I'd try to get stovee also, try to keep hydrated and take some lemsip.

You'd likely be coughing up gunk if that were the case.

If you've only got a dry cough and it's only been a couple of days, I'd try going to the pharmacy and getting some cough syrup.

Sounds like you've got a nasty virus. Lots of rest, fluids, bit of paracetamol and cough syrup and hopefully you feel better soon.
