Abbreviations on mumsnet

Hi all regular mumsnet people
Being only a few days that I've joined I'm a little lost with so many abbreviations.
Is there an Index page 🤔

www.mumsnet.com/i/acronyms

allboysherebutme · 26/12/2022 23:41

You will also get used to what everything means. X

NoDairyNoProblem · 26/12/2022 23:43

Oh I have no idea, I just picked them up over time.

D in front of lots is Darling
H husband
W wife
S son
D daughter
M mother
F father or friend
Sis and Bro obvious
Mil, Fil Sil and Bil for in-laws etc

F4chrissakes · 26/12/2022 23:46

That list is handy. But doesn't cover all of them.
I once read a thread on mumsnet about breaking lockdown during the pandemic, and why people justified it. One post was from an SW - googled that - sex worker - who had to go into peoples homes because she dealt with CP. Googled that too - cerebral palsy. Well, I thought, we all have needs, why not, but surely in a pandemic those kinds of needs could wait? Except further on in the thread, it transpired that she was a social worker dealing with child protection. Which threw rather a different light on it!

RedAndBlueStripedGolfingUmbrella · 26/12/2022 23:48

Same, just picked them up over the years 😁
DD - dear daughter
DS - dear son
STBXH - soon to be ex husband
LTB - leave the bastard
DF - dear father or fiance, check the context lol
ODFOD - oh do fuck off dear 😁

Rogue1001MNer · 26/12/2022 23:50

CF = cheeky fucker
DSC/D/S =dear step child/daughter/son

Pearls1234 · 26/12/2022 23:53

The list is really helpful when you first join! I’m not a fan of them and some sound a bit silly (imagining lots of little girls called DeeDee lol), but you’ll be surprised how quickly you stop noticing them - and even use them yourself. 😂

Pearls1234 · 26/12/2022 23:54

Also CF still gets me every time as on most of the forums I’ve been on it’s stood for ‘child free’, but it’s ‘cheeky fucker’ here!

So look out for potential crossed/different meanings.

Wilff · 27/12/2022 00:02

What a friendly bunch you all are .
Thanks for the info and sooo quickly.
I'll be able to understand the context of posts now.

In a thread title, starting or ending with TW nearly always means 'trigger warning' ; elsewhere it probably means 'transwoman'. Definitely not one to misinterpret!

ZenNudist · 27/12/2022 00:16

I like

FOTTFSOFAWYGTFOSM

not directed at you OP (original poster).

I was initially confused by STBXH soon to be ex husband. I read it as stupid bastard ex husband!

Other esoteric ones

PFB precious first born meaning your first child when you go over the top(OTT) on all aspects of parenting such warming their sheets so they don't get into a cool cot or sitting in the back seat of the car so they can see you whilst DH drives!😃

MOH on wedding threads maid of honour

On the feminism and women's rights (FWR) there's NAMALT not all men and like that a concept I can't begin to explain. In fact FWR has a bunch of acronyms and you're just going to have to work it out!

There's about a million. You'll work it out.

A word about the 'D' is an abbreviation that predates mumsnet (MN). No one is actually saying dear husband and deardaughter. Its just easier to recognise than a single letter D or H.

Lost123454 · 27/12/2022 00:27

I thought CF was cunt face

That works too 😁

Another one

LTB leave the bastard. To be used liberally.

🍘biscuit. Use to express a sort of non reaction but making it clear you want poster to fuck off. You probably need to Google an explanation of biscuit on mumsnet. Lots of "have my first ever 🍘"

Biscuit I think is in kind of a "no comment" way
As in I see your comment, it doesn't deserve a reply, here, have a biscuit. 😁
Think it originated from Gordon Brown doing a webchat on here years ago and didn't get round to saying what type of biscuit he preferred despite being repeatedly asked 😁

What's happened to your Biscuit? It has to be the proper MN jammie dodger not a newfangled emoji one.
