Pretty sure my partner's dad saw me naked

I'm staying at my partner's house. I was in the bathroom getting ready for bed naked. I opened the door to go back to the bedroom, and his dad was wandering around in the hall. I said Aaahhh and shut the door, and kind of laughed it off out of embarrassment.

We had said good night a couple of hours previously, but they live next door and do just pop round every now and again. We usually put a chain across the door after they leave, but we forgot this evening.

Hopefully he didn't pop in 30 minutes previously, or he might have heard noises.

Does this sort of thing happen to other people? Just feels a bit like a Bridget Jones moment.

Going to be nice and awkward tomorrow. How do I even navigate this socially? Cringe

Some posters need to go to Specsavers.

That's his house, she should have some decency in someone else's house

It's the OP's partner's house...

AreOttersJustWetCats · 26/12/2022 10:41

What on earth was he doing there? It's not normal to 'pop round' in the middle of the night. The family have bizarre boundaries if they do this.

LaBellina · 26/12/2022 10:43

Am I the only one who thinks he might have heard what you’ve been up to just before? This would seriously creep me out, definitely not you who should feel embarrassed.

MisssHavisham · 26/12/2022 11:07

The best people learn to laugh about such things. Wandering in next door, is probably something he does (or did) often and he’s never thought of the awkward consequences.

The situation is reminiscent of when a parent routinely wanders into their child’s bedroom, until one day, they realise - “Oh Oh… sorry, next time I’ll knock”. If they’re a good family and you get no creepy vibes, you’ll soon be able to laugh away the awkwardness.

You think he often wanders into another house in the middle of the night?! I don't understand why someone would?

blubberball · 26/12/2022 11:23

We've definitely gone for the let's pretend that never happened option. I think that I had a window of opportunity to say something, which quickly went by as subjects changed. We'll definitely be more careful to put the chain on the door in future

It’s her partner’s house, and her partner’s dad has apparently let himself in in the middle of the night without telling anyone, and is wandering around on their landing while they are in bed.

Which, reading it back, sounds mental doesn’t it.

HitMeWithAHotNoteAndWatchMeBounce · 26/12/2022 16:42

The reading comprehension of a surprisingly large number of adults is really bad.

It’s not his house

Sorry, re-read the OP. Why are you wandering around naked in someone else's house?

It's her boyfriend's house.

The comprehension skills on this thread are unbelievable!

Hang on, we’ve all missed the bit about the fact it’s a bungalow, which makes it slightly less strange that the Dad was wandering around, but still pretty bonkers.

blubberball · 26/12/2022 17:31

I just said it was a bungalow, because people were assuming that he wandered upstairs to where the bedrooms and bathroom are. I was just clearing up that it's all on one floor, so he could have wandered into the living room. Any way, I guess it was just a bit of a non event, because we all just carried on like nothing happened.

Don’t get me wrong OP I think the bungalow is key to the story! It would have been 100% bonkers if he’d been wandering around an upper level.

AreOttersJustWetCats · 26/12/2022 20:58

For me, the fact that it's a bungalow doesn't change the main weird thing, which is letting yourself into someone else's house in the middle of the night. That's just not normal at all.

blubberball · 26/12/2022 21:27

Put the chain on tonight

Same! If he’d shouted “Son, I left my glasses behind earlier, mind if I pick them up?” as he walked in the door, then fine. But you said he came and went without your DP even knowing he’d been in the house, and you two had already gone to bed. Super-odd.

I don’t even walk into my own house without shouting “hi!” So people know I’m in. I’d never let myself into somebody else’s house when I knew they were in, and not let them know I was there.

Follycastle · 26/12/2022 22:20

Yeah the bungalow thing doesn’t stop it being weird, I was just saying at least it wasn’t made extra weird by the fact he was loitering on the landing in the middle of the night, because I can’t imagine any circumstance when this would happen. At least with the bungalow thing you can sort of imagine he returned for something he’d forgotten, at a push, maybe?!

Who am I kidding. Still totally bonkers that he was there, unannounced, at that time of night.

LlynTegid · 28/12/2022 16:31

I think you have made the right decision.
