Exeter to Newton Abbott along the Dawlish coast is glorious.

If you take the Exeter to Newton Abbot as many have recommended for the Dawlish stretch, you can then go on to Paignton and change to the old steam railway down to Kingswear, which is over the estuary from Dartmouth - a ferry then takes you across the water. A lovely day out, beautiful scenic train through woods and coves, then Dartmouth at the end. Dartmouth is the only rail station in Britain without a platform (I think it’s a restaurant now…)
