3 year old - stomach problems?

Sorry, I'm posting for traffic!

I'm a bit worried about my 3 year old and not sure if I'm being silly. The past few weeks she has been burping constantly, it's not just after meals, her diet hasn't changed, and it's all the time. We're staying at my parents' over Christmas and my mum has commented on just how ridiculously frequent it is.

A few nights ago she woke up shortly after being put to bed and was crying that her tummy hurt. She then did a couple of big burps and was fine.
Tonight, shortly after being put to bed, I heard her crying and went up and she'd been sick. It wasn't much, and she seemed totally fine afterwards and is now asleep. I'm wondering whether it was a sicky burp maybe, but can't be sure as I wasn't there. She ate a normal amount today (so wasn't full of Christmas food or anything), and I guess it could be a bug.

But I'm wondering if the burping, stomach pain (and now potentially a small vomit) are signs of a problem? Perhaps reflux? But she never had this as a baby so not sure. An intolerance maybe? But I worry that "my daughter burps a lot" will just be a massive waste of a GP's time. Would you get this checked? Or are some kids just burpy and sometimes bring up a bit of sick with it??

Could be a bit of a bug or tummy upset?
Doesn't sound too serious but just monitor it and if her symptoms get worse or you aren't happy, contact your GP and just tell them she's under the weather' burping a lot and been sick a few times. Doesn't matter if you have to exaggerate symptoms a little. Check her temp regularly and offer calpol if necessary. My little one sometimes catches things from nursery and he will be off his food, a little sick and burping. The burping is sometimes him wretching a bit or bringing stuff up.
Hes usually fine after a sleep and a few days but I always just do the regular monitoring him, check temp, make sure toilet habits are normal- he's eating and drinking enough, no rash anywhere and his general energy levels seem ok.
You will know if you need to call the GP in the next few days but don't worry about feeling silly for mentioning burping.
Doctors won't judge you for taking in your child even if they are ok- they will be happy to reassure you.

Was you little one sick recently within the last month, did you give her any cough medicine? My three year old had a similar problem turned to be stomach pain sort of like an ulcer cause I gave her cough syrup when she was coughing non stop. They prescribed her omeprazole and it cleared her up, now I don’t give her any cough syrup just Tyne lol not even Advil. Try to wait at least an hour or two after a meal to put her bed and thirty minutes after drinking something. If it is acid reflux which can happen that will help. Do not put her down on a full stomach. If it is a stomach bug she wouldn’t be burping, burping is a sign of excessive acid in the stomach or not eating. Also check to see when she burps the most is it after eating fast food like pizza chips, or after eating an orange or anything citrusy? All can trigger stomach pain. If she is gaining weight then it’s likely mild and a little diet change or sleeping arraignment will help. But still see a doctor.

@Lexi868 thank - I don't think the burping is a bug, it's gone on weeks. The vomit may have been, in which case I think it's separate to the burping.

@Answers06292022 Thanks. Hmm she may have had cough medicine. She was given a course of antibiotics about 6 weeks ago (this may have coincided with the start of the burping) and I can't remember if we also gave her cough medicine during that illness. She definitely had a cough but I can't remember whether we just gave calpol and the antibiotics.
She did have a satsuma after her tea tonight so maybe the acidic food closer to bed was what came up.
I've considered a food diary for the burping but it's so frequent I'm not sure there's much point - she's burping non stop all day, it doesn't seem to be worse at some points and better at others.

yep, sounds similar to my little one. She also had antibiotics and a cough a few months apart and then her stomach pain started. I would recommend asking the doctor for omeprazole or some sort of antacid and make sure it’s not capsules maybe take it to a compounding pharmacist that turns it into liquid. Take it for a month in the morning 30 minutes before eating. You will notice a huge difference. Get it checked because the longer you wait it can develop into chronic gastritis or worse and ulcer. And do not give cough syrups to her give her honey. Cough syrups of any kind are not recommended for children, not sure why they produce it.

My 6 yr old daughter had this too. Was feeling nauseous as well- I assume heartburn. Dr prescribed Gaviscon advance for 3 weeks but within 2 days there was massive improvement.

Thanks. I'll call the GP in a couple of days when they reopen then, and see what they think. Did it just need one round of antacids for you, and then it was fine?

Yes it was a month and then it went away

Get her checked for hypermobility. people with hypermobility often develop severe stomach problems which tend to improve as they get older.
